PvE players are not the problem, FD's decision to split the players apart is

Such an irritating topic that gets repeated constantly by people who didn't do any research into what this game is. There is no point in forcing people to play in a universe that they don't want to. They won't help you, they won't be a challenge, they won't add anything except an extra hollow square occationally when super cruising. There are so many solar systems just in inhabited space, that it's entirely possible to fly for hours without seeing anyone. It's the same way in EVE and in it everyone plays in the same universe. The only thing that forcing people into online will do is alienate the people who want to play solo.
I used to think that making people choose one or the other or just having online was the best idea but then I realized that this game isn't a competition, other players don't interfere with your "progress" any more than npcs do, there are no corporations or player factions, etc. It's basically a single player game where random people happen to be real sometimes.

Have you even played this game?

there are factions and corporation just not player owned but they are player controled and large groups change the systems in a way that the open mode players just cant tend with. there for if poeple want to play solo they should have their own universe to change and people who play private group should have the same and the people who play open should be able to have thier own universe as well, none of thease three should have an effect on one another at all.

There is no problem beyond the problem created by your perception of there being a problem and that, really is your problem

This is the problem.
Tl:dr Your choice affects their choice, traders gain by playing solo, bounty hunters and pirates lose out by playing solo.

It's not about OPEN PvPers wanting more targets to "grief". It's just that OPEN play feels pretty dead and we assume it's because everyone is hiding in Solo play. Along with NPCs not being very rewarding or fun for Pirates and Bounties hunters, some of them are getting desperate by beating this dead horse. Without better NPCs, CMDR Trader is the only thing that can complete the Piracy-Bounty Hunter food chain. If this isn't due to poor matchmaking, and most players are in Solo mode, then FD should make better NPC interaction a top priority.

First time I've used the "ignore user" feature on this site. The amount of whine coming through daily is astounding.....I'm starting to get turned off the forums....

Posts like these along with the "Uuuuuuuuuuggggggggggghhhhhh" posts just help bump these "whine" threads to the top. There are actually constructive posts once in a while, but they often get hidden by posts like these and the flame wars they create. You know you beat the same dead horse when you do this right?

Except that doesn't happen. I'll go to a "busy" system and see 1-3 CMDRs over the course of a few days. Either the vast majority of players play Solo/Group, or the matchmaking isn't very good....or both :-
As I said, ym preference is that we all played together so I know I'd encounter more humans. More humans = more dynamic gameplay. Doesn't even have to be pirates either. However, my desires for the game does not trump how someone wishes to play the game. If the choice is available, they should play the game how they wish regardless of my wishes.

Ironic that it's those saying they hate 'these' threads are those who have turned it into exactly 'that' sort of thread.

Perhaps there should be some kind of reading comprehension test before being allowed to post.

I'll be off to do something more constructive.

It's just that OPEN play feels pretty dead and we assume it's because everyone is hiding in Solo play.

If everyone is "hiding" in Solo play then wouldn't they be damaging themselves in trying to cater to the minority by eliminating the option or forcing people together? If the majority of the players wanted to play in Open, they would.

Without better NPCs, CMDR Trader is the only thing that can complete the Piracy-Bounty Hunter food chain. If this isn't due to poor matchmaking, and most players are in Solo mode, then FD should make better NPC interaction a top priority.
Now this is a request that I can get behind. Im all for improving NPC interaction.

The universe is pretty empty and so many playing solo is a huge part of that. Now I understand the reason for cthat but FD took the easy way out to protect the inexperienced . It would have been far better if core systems would be well guarded by police and military to make pirate attacks exceedingly rare there while making the frontier outer space indeed just that: A frontier region where anything goes.

In some online games, people stay for years in the safe areas and still have fun (and let's face it: in Elite it doesn't matter so far whether you're in Sol or in Zaonce: The graphics and game play mechanics are the same).

Safe areas and dangerous frontier areas should have incentives: Trading is safe in the core, while there are more minerals to mine (untouched ressources) and bounty to hunt in the frontier areas. Thus there is incentive to want to reach both areas.

So instead of a safe space for beginners and inexperienced , Frontier went the very lazy route to split the players apart as much as possible due the heavy instancing, seamless switching between open and multi, ban-lists and blocking. The effort to keep the players apart is way too much overdone and empties the game to ridiculous extends. I mean at best you have 5-6 players in Sol and Achernar at the same time. That's pretty laughable for the hearts of two "space empires".

And all of that is just your opinion... thanks...

Reason I play in solo is I don't care who you are, don't want to play with you, see you, contact you, interact with you.. I was promised a single player game (albeit with internet connection) and it is exactly what I got and I'm loving it...

The OP wasn't necessarily advocating to get rid of Solo play, but mentioning ways to make OPEN play more appealing to some that may be "hiding". It just seems most people have their "Copy-Paste Dead Horse Response" on a macro for these forums right now.

You're right, perhaps 90% of the player base never wanted mulitplayer and OPEN play was just a little feature to help get the game funded, I can accept that. If most players want it the way it is, that's fine. It doesn't mean we can't suggest ways to make OPEN play more appealing and alive without being labeled a horse beater every time.

Maybe If we post enough about thsi topic ED will see the error of their ways.

I doubt it. This is just the latest of many similar threads. They didn't change FD's mind in the design stage, and they actually used well thought out arguments, so I seriously don't they will do much more than maybe browse this and shrug.

I think you may be on to something, it is possible that its matchmaking rather than people "hiding" as you put it.

It is also highly likely that it is just people doing their thing, off 1000 ly's exploring or in a quiet backwater mining a living.

That being said I am seeing plenty of players where I am, still near my starter system.

I also agree NPC interaction could be better, I am sure its in the plan.

You said it, did you read it? Which side of this debate are you on again? The Open server is there for all of the people that want to play it that way, its not my problem if there aren't enough of you.
