PvP (Open) commanders not welcome on this forum?...

for the record I don't think PvE'ers are a crap tier and I don't want to force people into open, if you wanna play by yourself or with your friends in a private group that's kool with me.
but I would want people who play in open to stop complaining if they get murder/death/killed.

I think most people agree with this - I certainly do. If I choose the play in Open then I accept the possible consequences of doing so. What gets peoples' goat is the PvP players that insist everyone should play in Open, because if we don't then we're...stealing their fish, or something.

Arguably those who PvP are more accomplished players, it stands to reason.

that's true if you're on about combat but a PvP player might not be as an accomplished miner or explorer. a little context doesn't hurt. I'm into PvP myself and I don't think I'm more accomplished then any other player.

Out of curiosity; why are you posting that you rep? I see this often, but I don't understand the reason.

It's a sign of agreement/solidarity with a poster's comment, style, presentation, and/or articulation.

You click the little Rep button below an avatar. (the thumbs up). What it does...I have no idea. But I give it anyway.

Stop being a weak target.

Play smarter. Open is open. You take the risk of being singled out every time you log in to it. Just like I'm taking the risk in an Anaconda that's half fit for exploration and half fit for PvE because, if I get targeted, I won't last 10 seconds in that big lumbering steel box.

The difference is.. I know I'm a potential target and when I play (Or at least when I get back to the bubble) I know to pay more attention to my surroundings so that I'm not surprised by a random player looking to destroy me for fun. It's part of the game.

Why people can't seem to understand that is beyond me.

How about this... some players don't feel the need of the sort of challenge you are talking about.

It is totally irrelevant to them. A simple level of basic ship handling competance/reasonable ship build suffices to allow them to deal with the majority of interdictions and NPC encounters whilst "blazing their own trail" in the galaxy, and they are fine with that.

I know you give it. I know the poster sees it. But my question is; why do you create a post stating that you rep? You want me to see that you repped someone? Why?

Combat is a core element of the game, past and present. I'm not sure there is anything skill based about grinding a trade run or honking at stars. So the skillful piloting of ones ship is likely the only defining factor. If folks are just fighting AI then they aren't going to be facing much of a challenge (that some think its challenging is revealing enough). Over the years I've had lots of battles with other players and learnt a lot from the experience, without which I wouldn't be as competitive as I am now.

Anyone who avoids fighting other players will never had the need to improve, and they won't have had the experience to manage themselves in a fight. I'm just stating the obvious rather than trying to come off as being superior. Nevertheless I think its within most people to improve and reach a reasonable standard in this area, but what tends to happen is people moan at Frontier that its too hard, as per my previous comments about 2.1 AI

This superiority complex and the Master Race - crap tier classification is meaningless to players who just don't care about the other paradigm of playing. In fact it's just another example about intentionally trolling and trying to mine more salt.

You smug condenscenion continues to amaze.
You do realize this is a game right? A spaceship video game? A game that most do for enjoyment?
How small must it be eh?

My emphasis. Players who don't want to engage in PvP are all Catholic now?

Nah, its more in my minds eye when you used to get the "I got interdicted and died" threads by the boat load that the poster was clutching at rosary beads like an extra in a bad disaster movie, or rocking back and forth like Eva Green in Casino Royale.

tumblr_mef52tUb7e1qawywqo3_250.gif

What really ground my gears about those threads was anyone who pointed out where theyd gone wrong (beyond the 'go to solo/mobius' responses) would equally be hit with vitriol

"I died at a CG in open to a griefer, its not fair"

"Did you highwake?"

"Dont tell me to git gud griefer!"

"Were you unshielded?"

"Thats not the point you sociopath"

"Did you have an escort?"

"*insert time poor excuse here*"

"When he asked for cargo, did you run?"

"Yes but they werent RPing a pirate properly. Theyre a child in real life, like you are."

Ad nauseum.

The irony is everyone actually PvEs.. I'm not making judgements about how people play the game but I just don't see exploration or mining, or space trucking as requiring much in the way of skill. All part of the game of course but anyone can honk at stars, spacetruck a trade run, or shoot at rocks.. Not everyone is as able when it comes to the skill of piloting ones ship particuarly when it comes to a combat situation.

Because it saves me the time of having to repeat something already said. Call it appreciation.

Apparently I can't rep you again. Feelsbadman.

It is quite telling that people can't seem to accept that fighting AI isn't equivalent in challenge or dynamics as fighting a human player in an EQUALLY capable ship. Me thinks that CMDRs have been out there killing NPC Anacondas in 30 seconds a little too long...and has given inflated egos.

To me it's like thinking playing NPCs in Street Fighter will prepare you adequately to play online; everyone will tell you quickly that it does not. It's like a brand new concept to some of us. It's baffling, really.

Again I say, if you guys feel so capable in the training and preparation received exclusively from beating up NPCs, step up and fight. Otherwise, sit down and recognize there are objectively better [combat] pilots playing the game than you. That would beat you 10 times out of 10 in a fair fight. if you want to be one of them, you gotta put in the work to do so. They sound happy to accept new recruits.

Just how do you think a pvp tournament promoted by one Harry Potter would be received on this forum? How would that thread pan out?

It shouldn't matter who is promoting it, nor should their background in the context of the event in question.

Besides, Harry hasn't even posted in WinterCharm's original Reddit thread - unless he's using an alt account which I doubt.

I sort of agree with you its just the way you type makes people think you're being a tool, I'm a combat pilot and I agree the AI need to be harder and more challenging and I subscribe to the age old mantra of "Git Gud or Die" but saying that the way other people play the game is lesser then yours is a bit harsh. just because they aren't competitive doesn't mean they are less accomplished.

Possibly and for good reason really, if you are only fighting the dummy AI I doubt you've ever really been pushed.. Were you around in the immediate aftermath of the 2.1 improved AI with engineered weapons? Most 'PvPers' were loving the additional challenge, I think its fair to say the PvE only crowd were not and the QQ was high even for this forum.

Arguably those who PvP are more accomplished players, it stands to reason.

Well its history now but it all got quickly nerfed..

Thanks to clarify the situation Cosmos, so all PVE players are 'crap' tier players... what a open minded vision !
Surely a bit of respect from BOTH sides would be great if we want to make this work

Tell me which one is a crap players in this scenario :

btw, following the logic, PVPers should be 'crap' tier players too, i guess they had to make some PVE at some point, making them as crap as us !

when you say C&P what exactly do you want because I see C&P thrown around a lot but know one ever gives any details. no C&P system will stop random killing unless your idea of C&P involves deleting the accounts of anyone who attacks you.

ok i am out of this thread after this, as i am way OT for OP and i see him getting irate ;)
but i did not want to be rude so to answer your Q.... its difficult, some something along the lines of closing the suicidewinder exploit, stopping "murder" bounties from expiring after a week, and havng more than a pathetic few thousand credit bounty for blowing up a clean player in high sec space, along with faction wide wanted levels and a separate Pilots Federation bounty system as well would be a start.

(roleplay) psychos probably should be allowed to exist - but they should go all in on the role play, and be on the fringes of space, not docking in hisec systems where they should be hated.... but as i said i am out, sorry @ OP :)

see u in another thread cmdr.

Thats fine but perhaps they shouldn't be calling anyone who shoots at people in the game all the names under the sun. And perhaps they should stop complaining when they get rext.

I was always under the impression that open was pvp mode and if one doesnt git gud, we should go solo...that line was certainly shoved into my face enough times when I first started playing...so I went solo and thought nothing more of them.

Then a whole raft of threads from frustrated and lonely pvprs asking why so many played in solo...they didnt like the answers and went on the forum offensive...literally being as offensive as they could get away with.

Then they came back asking why everyone was upset with them...

There is now a level zero ^^

How small must it be eh?

Question: why is the acknowledgement that other players who have sharpened their skills on sharper edges than half-lobotimized NPC's painful for you?

Do you recoil at the suggestion that Floyd Mayweather might be able to beat you up? That Neil deGrasse Tyson might be smarter than you? That Brad Pitt might look more handsome than you?

I watch pro players play games on Twitch on occasion. Dota 2, League of Legends, Counterstrike, Overwatch, and so on. Many of those games offer NPC vs modes. I can play those vs modes and get to a point where I can destroy the hardest difficulty of NPC in those games. Does that mean I should feel equal to the players competing for millions of dollars? Or is it possible they might actually simply be better than me, even if I played against those NPCs for 1,000 hours? In reality those NPC modes are below the very level of human player in those games. NPCs don't prepare you for a damn thing except beating up more NPCs.

I'm mostly a PvE player (for now); I have been PvE focused for 1,700 hours. I would not expect to be able to beat any regular PvP player. I'm okay with that. Gives me a new goal to shoot for should I decide to shoot for it.

It's weird, the fragility of you guys egos. Heaven forbid players who sharpen their iron on other players instead of perma-spinning NPCs in RES sites (remember those??!) end up with the stronger set of skills and deeper understanding of the game.

Thanks to clarify the situation Cosmos, so all PVE players are 'crap' tier players... what a open minded vision !

If you feel you're good, put on some gloves and get in a PvP ring and prove it. This is all pretty simple.

I was always under the impression that open was pvp mode and if one doesnt git gud, we should go solo...

Nah man, Open is just...Open. Things can happen. Things rarely happen unless you're at a CG or something.

I'm in Open every day and I've been hostilely interdicted once in the last 12 months. I simply flew away. The number of times I see a friendly commander compared to those with bad intentions is something on the order of 200:1.

Never said that actually, I didn't frame the term 'crap tier' by the way. However, there is a difference to fighting the AI and a decent player, if someone has only experienced the AI then they will almost certainly get rext by a more experienced player who fights other players frequently.

They don't if you deliberately put them in their most simplistic terms as you have here. Now, if we get into the reading of the BGS for trade and profit opportunities, or understanding elements of the galaxy in terms of probability in exploration terms then it ain't quite so simple. Being able to mine, trade and explore are, on the surface at least simple, doing them to maximise efficiency and profitability is a different ball game.

The BGS is much more dynamic and nuanced than many seem to realise, learning and at least partially understanding that is, in my humble opinion at least, as complex as watching some tactics videos, equipping a cookie cutter engineered build and flying in circles going pew for a bit, (realise there is more to it than that but sarcastically playing your over simplification game too).
