PvP UA Bombing

Thargoid Probes emit a shutdown field in response to a discovery scan, right?
What's to stop a pirate dropping in on a trader, dropping a Thargoid Probe and hitting Discovery Scan, then while both ships are disabled for a long period, the pirate's wingmates drop in and cripple the trader?

Asking, uh, for the enforcement of justice.

Because when you do that 10,000 Guardian Sentinels appear, all glowing with the pure blue light of love.

I wonder if it'd be effective for pilot that's just been interdicted. Dump a probe and honk to disable yourself and your attacker, buy time for your drive to spin down.

edit: what would be more fun of course would be to drop one next to the mailslot at jameson's or cleve hub or something and wait

Sweet. Still, what's the range on it? Would it ever be practical?

Practical? Yes, if your aim is only to deliver a surprise. But if you want to stop your target from waking, an FSD disruptor rocket to the face will buy you far more time than that.

Maybe it covers a distance of 2~4km, but I can't be really sure of it since I haven't done a very detailed test.

Nothing as such, it'd just be a really overcomplicated way to do it.

- the probe's EMP burst doesn't have a massive radius (or, as pointed out, duration)
- the trader is probably boosting away from you
- it takes quite a while to fire off a honk

So you'd need to time the jettison and honk quite carefully, they'd still be going fairly fast when disabled so would drift away a bit more, and your wingmates would have to wait for your honk to complete before dropping in with nav-lock to avoid getting caught in it themselves (whereas if you hadn't done this plan and they dropped in immediately on interdiction they could have been shooting at the trader for the last ten seconds anyway)

wondering if the shutdown pulse affects goids....I know it SHOULDN'T but coding.

Anyone try dropping a UA or 10 in front of a goid and setting it off before they can suck it up?

You wouldn't get in fast enough before it sucks it up.

however... if you have other cargo in your hold such as other Thargoid items, it won't show interest in it until you dump it all. it could be possible, as you get 25 seconds to drop all cargo after the Thargoid's scan completes.
