Python Owners speak up PLEASE

I've already mentioned this in previous threads. There is an optimum. It currently lands in the Viper/Cobra size category currently, as larger ships tend to tail off apart from the Python. If it were the case as you say but with the optimisation on the Python, then the Clipper, Dropship and other large ships should also be reaping benefits as they would logically do so.
Current Python role de facto is a heavy fighter. It is like F-15 in Mig-21 world. It is heavier, much more expensive, but much more superior in EVERY way. Do you think Mig-21 pilots thinks that it is fair that this big and expensive jet is so much better? Do not think so, but who cares? This is an optimum balance - you got what you pay for.

Really? I get the vibe that the Viper shouldn't be able to easily (as in really, really low chance) beat the Python, and that's the point. They're changing it so it's easier to beat the Python which doesn't make sense (to me). In fact with my big tinfoil hat on I think the reason it's being nerfed at all is because of people complaining about it being too strong.

There was a thread a while ago where they mentioned that it was going to be toned down, as the turn rate seemed buggy (way too fast). Not only that but the calculated shield values put it higher than the Anaconda, and more than double the Clipper shield strength which seems obviously wrong, and that it has some of the biggest firepower about. The writing's been on the wall for a while, and the majority of complaints happened after the new numbers were announced.

Irrelevant. The other large ships would reap the benefits, and the Python is an old design and obviously not state-of-the-art.

Also, the larger ships are more akin to bombers and fighters. The F-15 and MIG-21 are more akin to the Viper, literally a heavy fighter.

Basic reading and comprehension tells us the Dev quote was explicit in explaining that the Python is a large ship and shouldn't be capable of its current performance
Basic logic tells that it were Devs who put tons of perfectly positioned hardpoints and powerful trusters on it. And Python is not big at all. It can even land on outposts. It is a fighter ship design, nothing else.

Yeah, I know. That response where it was first mentioned was a response to something I wrote, lol. It was in parentheses. I'm all for the shield nerfs, that's fine, it was too high. The turn rate (from numbers I've seen) is being changed too much. Especially for a ship with all hardpoints pointing forward, it's like having a .357 but you can't turn around to shoot the guy with the .22 who just keeps shooting you in your back.

But we'll see, I am hopeful like said above this will be forgotten in a week because the changes "look" worse than they are. I really, really hope so because I love this ship. The looks, the options I have in it, etc ... I traded like a fiend to get it and even bought it POST announcement in changes. Was going to gear it up and use it as my my Bounty Hunter (don't care about PVP) and it's got a pretty decent jump range when completely empty so even as an explorer with an A4 fuel scoop.

SCBs, Python, Dumbfire missiles, all PVP related changes (IMO, sorry, still don't buy the "we were gonna change it anyway" excuse, and I'll wear that tinfoil hat to the grave), some good, some bad. Personally I think the only 'good' change is the missiles, those shouldn't take out shields as fast as they do. But I'm mostly a PVE player in what seems to slowly becoming a PVP game (unfortunately).

I think the reason it's being nerfed at all is because of people complaining about it being too strong, which I don't think is a problem.
I can't read this statement any longer. I don't think there was much complaining before Michael announced the balance changes. Everybody knew that the Python was very strong, but I can't remember any "please nerf" threads (maybe I just did not see them, then I'm sorry).

After the balance change was announced a lot of "please don't nerf" threads popped up. And there a lot of people voiced their opinion and as it seems a lot of people are for a balance change. So if anything the guys who started those threads are responsible for the additional pro balance feedback.

I personally think the balance change is good but I also think that ship insurance is too high for the more valuable ships and should be adjusted.

Nope. Mig-21 is not a heavy fighter. It is a small plane with weight around 9 tons. F-15 is much bigger and could weight more than 30 tons. And still have higher speed, better turn radius and all other flight characteristics. And yes, it practically untouchable by Mig-21 and dominate the skies.

So it's an Eagle then, with the F-15 being the Viper?

My personal opinion on the Python is that it's OP.

Mine is fully A rated with military grade composite, worth about 250M, I've claimed about 60x PVP kills with it and haven't even lost an outer ring of shields, and about 700-800 PVE kills with the Python alone, with A-Rated thrusters it flies like a cobra, fast and maneuverable - which also makes it suited to fixed weapons, so it can pump out serious DPS..

As much as I love the Python, I really do think it's a little overpowered.

I think the rest of this above discussion should go to.

No offence, and I'm just saying :)

That's a bad insult and you should feel bad saying that. It's like a 12 year old from 2005 when URL jokes were still funny. You even had to go back and edit your post because it was getting shortened with the URL coding. Bad attempt is worse.

yep, you got me. I feel ashamed now.

Oh well, never mind, moving on, back to work for me. :) TTFN

Don't understand those "nerfing / balance" the python treats....

U try to campe a ship thats 56.000.000 cr worth with a what? A Viper that's about 170.000 cr woth?
B6 shilds for python are about 3.000.000 Cr that are 17,6 Vipers!

Think this over pls.

Yeah, your point only works if you ignore the Anaconda, which costs 3 times more than a Python and yet is considerably weaker.

Yeah, and you can buy 35 viper hulls for the price of a single Asp without upgrades yet taking on even 2 Viper CMDRs is borderline suicide in an Asp if they have any clues about how to fly their Vipers.

The Asp can fit Class 6 shields as well.

Just because youre in the more expensive ship doesn't mean you should win by default.

But the Anaconda wasn't meant to be a 'fighter' or 'combat' ship. Nobody is asking for combat buffs to a Type 9 because the role is there. They made the role abundantly clear about the Python, it was an awesomely expensive upgrade from the Cobra, another all-rounder but now they are saying "it's a trader with guns". We have enough trade ships! And we have no idea when we'll see more combat oriented ships so gutting the cream of the crop of the combat ships (even if it can do trading also) is a weak move. Give before you take, but instead it's take and we'll probably give sometime ... not sure, maybe, but yeah, soon©

Nobody is saying that directly, but you just said it was TWO Vipers. Plus you're bending numbers, if you want to talk Two Vipers vs an Asp let's at least outfit them appropriately. Two Vipers combat spec'd are about the same price as the starting Asp.

But two ships should always be a bit tougher for a ship that is basically around the same combat rank. Viper has 2M/2S hardpoints and the Asp has only 2 more small hardpoints. Now take the Python, should two Vipers be able to easily take it out also? I don't think so. And others think that 1 Viper should be able to take it out with a competent pilot. It's always "with a competent pilot" but we can't base the game around the absolutely best pilot flying something. All pilot skills equal I'd think two Vipers should be able to take out an Asp, but NOT be able to take out a Python.

You could use reading more developer posts for enlightenment.

Mike said the only reason the Python can land on medium pads is because it was modelled to be thin enough. Any wider and it'd need large pads.

Its a large ship. Mike said so. Go look at the scale images. It's huge.

But no, you're right and the people who created the game must be mistaken.

Not sure what you meant by hard points. I'm not saying it's not designed for combat. It clearly is. It's supposed to be a gun boat.

Sorry, paraphrasing devs again. It's where I get my information from and helps me formulate an opinion based on facts rather than emotional effects of losing an iwin button.

Yes because just like Vipers and Eagles, the other combat ships in the game, no one in their right mind would trade in a Python.

Oh wait you're saying Python is a "multirole" ship like Cobras. This makes Anaconda a trading ship then?

If you really think the Python after nerf is nothing but a trading ship, come fight me in any ship other than Anaconda after the nerf.
