Alright peeps, talk to me about an engineered Python. Please post your stats: I have an engineered Cutter and FDL, but, I was thinking about doing a Python. So how awesome or bad is it? I want the ship for combat and exploration. I don't need credits or trade rank.
Just make sure you can afford the rebuy. The Python is slower and less maneuverable than either of those. Great ship, but it can bankrupt the uninitiated pilot.Just bought my first Python (sold my A-rated AspX and Vulture to get it, but I think it'll be worth it)!
Had just enough credits to get the core systems up to D-rating, and I can't wait to see how it handles!
Hehe, yup..

Yeah, I'm being a lot more careful with that now. Keeping enough to rebuy, so it's only D-rated still, but I'm slowly adding to it.

I'm not playing Horizons, so this may not be relevant, but once you get her a-rated she's a lot more fun. My first two missions after buying mine had me interdicted by a FAS on each run. One was 'dangerous', and I don't remember the other one. I was too busy flying! I got dinged up a bit, but managed to take 'em both out. There were a few times where the FAS would get behind me, but I managed to get turned around each time. Hitting them with 3 large beams put a smile on my face. Kinda fun actually.
Was just about to ask what you had her armed with. 3 large beams! That must draw a TON of power!
3 large beams, two medium mini-guns. First time, I pull the trigger until I get a heat warning. This will usually be enough to pop the shields on most smaller craft. Then I switch to guns, give it a count of 2-3, then hit 'em with the beams again, but in shorter bursts. And this is with the 7B PP and 7A power distributor. I'm still working on the 50 mil to get that 7A PP and still have enough stashed away for insurance.![]()
If you have Horizons put a 6A PP in and Engineer it. A 6A with a level 1 overcharged upgrade (good roll, easy to get) will be better than a 7B and less than a third of the mass.

Thanks for the tip. I will keep it in mind. The 7A PP comes in at 20T, which is a nice drop from the 7B. What does a 6A weigh?
