Ships Python Owners' Thread

Those Python ship kits look amazing. I am going to get one soon. Love this ship. I think its the best looking in the game to date. Corvette close second. I am going to get a paint job too. For the longest time I flew a Vulture as I enjoyed bounty hunting. I recently switched. Might get the colored weapons fire too.

Alright peeps, talk to me about an engineered Python. Please post your stats: I have an engineered Cutter and FDL, but, I was thinking about doing a Python. So how awesome or bad is it? I want the ship for combat and exploration. I don't need credits or trade rank.

This is my current mission runner/material hunter: https://eddp.co/u/EgH6bTfe.

Not totally accurate as I don't enter heat, integrity, recharge, resistance etc... related values in coriolis.

Boosts to 455 m/s, moves like a pre-engineers Viper and jumps 28 LY with a thermal vent beam and two super-penetrator hammers. Shields are thermal resistant modded bi-weaves with resistance modded boosters and it's flexible enough to take on most missions.

Leaves lots of room for improvement (e.g. the FSD roll was utter rubbish), but I fly it more than my fully modded Cutter, Anaconda, Corvette, FAS, FdL etc... combined.

Just bought my first Python (sold my A-rated AspX and Vulture to get it, but I think it'll be worth it)!
Had just enough credits to get the core systems up to D-rating, and I can't wait to see how it handles!

I'm basically a single-ship kind of guy although I have had two for about a week now. Today I was trying to make a long run in my AspEx and darn near got killed because the thing can barely defend itself. So I decided to go back and give the Python a second try. This time I had a few more bucks and A-rated everything I thought was important. Speed and responsiveness is much better now than it was with my budget build. It will be even better when I get Horizons. This could become a long-term relationship. :)

Just make sure you can afford the rebuy. The Python is slower and less maneuverable than either of those. Great ship, but it can bankrupt the uninitiated pilot.

I bought the Python, ship kit and tactical ice today. It's a good ship. I did some engineering work to it already and I would say it is similar to a stock FDL. Now I'm down to just under 400M in cash, an engineered Cutter, an engineered FDL and now the Python.

Yeah, I'm being a lot more careful with that now. Keeping enough to rebuy, so it's only D-rated still, but I'm slowly adding to it.

Try cargo missions so far I've made over 25 mil in a few days just cruising around as a delivery boy ;)

I'm not playing Horizons, so this may not be relevant, but once you get her a-rated she's a lot more fun. My first two missions after buying mine had me interdicted by a FAS on each run. One was 'dangerous', and I don't remember the other one. I was too busy flying! I got dinged up a bit, but managed to take 'em both out. There were a few times where the FAS would get behind me, but I managed to get turned around each time. Hitting them with 3 large beams put a smile on my face. Kinda fun actually.

Was just about to ask what you had her armed with. 3 large beams! That must draw a TON of power!

3 large beams, two medium mini-guns. First time, I pull the trigger until I get a heat warning. This will usually be enough to pop the shields on most smaller craft. Then I switch to guns, give it a count of 2-3, then hit 'em with the beams again, but in shorter bursts. And this is with the 7B PP and 7A power distributor. I'm still working on the 50 mil to get that 7A PP and still have enough stashed away for insurance. :)

If you have Horizons put a 6A PP in and Engineer it. A 6A with a level 1 overcharged upgrade (good roll, easy to get) will be better than a 7B and less than a third of the mass.

Thanks for the tip. I will keep it in mind. The 7A PP comes in at 20T, which is a nice drop from the 7B. What does a 6A weigh?

You're welcome. I'm pretty new to the Python myself and loving it.

A 7A actually weighs in at 40 tons, gives 30MW and costs a whopping 51 million. The 6A is 20 tons, gives 25.2MW and costs 16 million. A decent Lvl1 Overcharge upgrade from Farseer will give about 28MW. If you unlock Marco Qwent (it's a PITA if you're not allied with the Sirius Corp unfortunately) he does Lvl 4 Overcharged. My Lvl 4 Overcharged 6A pumps out 32MW, better than a stock 7A, at half the mass and at a third of the price. The downside is a bit more heat and a loss of ship integrity which are no problem really. Oh, and the need to unlock Marco [sour]
