PZ2 news...?

He thinks you got mad at the user on Discord for making the map, it seems everyone is in the wrong on this one
No... I'm getting tired of all the negativity... of all the "three weeks in and this is this or we don't have that, let's assume the worst case scenario is definitely happening and never stop talking about it" and so on... it's all the doom posting coming and it's beyond aggravating...

Oh okay then, sorry, thats on me, guess I was the one in the wrong lol

While I disagree about the troll comment, I will agree, I am almost positive, South America, North America, and Oceania will get more. I know it didn't happen for the first game; however, I am almost positive each will get at least a couple more reps each.

Alligator, American Flamingo, California Sea Lion, Red Kangaroo, Koala, Emu, Jaguar, Giant Anteater, Capybara, Collared Peccary will be added bare minimum for habitat animals base game and thats not great but its STILL GOOD.

I bet we will get MOST of the animals I listed there and more for basegame, or early via free updates

I agree with you. I am new to this forum and while there are plenty of knowledgeable (and some good-humored) people here, there is always just a short phase after an info drop where people are happy about the reveal and look of an animal, some other discoveries (e.g. maybe nesting) or cool gameplay features.
Very soon the discussion shifts to stuff yet missing or inaccuracies. Feels really discouraging to the point that I considered leaving again.

With that negative mindset, you will be miserable at launch in any case.
Frontier will not include every animal you want or you had in PZ1. They won't include every animal this community deems "essential for base game".
Not every corner of the earth will be reflected evenly. Not every animal will look "perfect". It's a video game with some abstractness to it.

I get being disappointed by some of it, but why not wait until everything is revealed and properly shown.
Because otherwise you may just sound stupid and impatient in retrospect.

It could be that they show roughly one new reserve each month and only following that will reveal the appropriate animals.
Or the first DLC will be an Everglades pack.

I am from Europe, but I don't care if Europe is more or less represented than other regions at launch.
I would buy a North American DLC pack or an European DLC pack either way. Or an Oceania one.

Yea, I wish people would at least wait until the currently known animals all show up in the zoopedia. Most of the terrestrial animals already known should be added in the next batch of the zoopedia drop. I am sure things will get much more interesting from there as it will be mostly new, uknown animals being added.

I do no not think we wll get ALL of the SA or Oce animals from the first game back, but I know for sure we will not end up with 2 species per continent. They just did not reveal the right wildlife reserves for these animals yet. So far we have seen African and European Wildlife reserve. That is why most of the revelaed animals we have seen so far are from those 2 continents.

As for the birds, I noticed this sentence in the lastest blog post: "We'll be back for a closer look at Planet Zoo 2's aquatic and flying species soon!"
Pretty sure we will see more birds with feature focus video regarding aviaries.

What other european animals are you guys expecting innbase game? I betting on lynx, badger, red fox, boar, caribou, ibex, swan, salamander and eagle owl.

Now that we have proper birds, a mallard duck is absolutely mandatory, top basic animal.
And I know we don't want a massive deer roster since launch, but fallow deer is another very basic zoo species.

The sciencetific name they use on the Zoopedia is Platax pinnatus which is the Dusky Batfish, which also doesn't quite match the fish and doesn't match the common name.
So if I'm not mistaken the common name refers to one species, the Scientific name another and the model a third?

What a way to implement a fish, they really outdid themselves with the naming chaos.

Actually Frontier lately revealed actual sales and NA animal pack was second LEAST popular DLC after conservation pack among first ten packs, which is interesting given community opinion on it.
When was that revealed? Spare a link? 🙏

To be fair, this one is quite difficult to get right. Google seem to mix up images of various species. Various names get used for various species also it seems. The animal change a lot in appearance going from juvenile to fully adult with middle stages as well. Still pretty sure something is off but figuring out exactly what is tricky.

Alright. After researching this some more, I don't really think there is much of a concern here after all. To me it do after all resembles the (fully grown) species it is supposed to be according to the sciencetific name, especially since they seem to vary a bit in how dark their bands are. The Zoopedia text with names also match Wikipedia's suggestions pretty well. I think the orbicular appears much too smooth and light with much less yellow for that to be the one they based it on

Indian or King Cobra - new exhibit animal anyone? And counts as a terrestrial animal as well. Also a highly requested animal
I think they will show new exhibit animals when they show how exhibits work now. Until then, they are going to keep showing returning exhibit animals.

Frontier is hyper fixated on the same 3 continen

To be fair, due to proximity, there are many animals that are found in either 2 or 3 of those continents, which makes the count grow fast. I also think Oceania isn't doing as bad this time. If Oceania continues to get 1 animal each time there's a zoopedia reveal, then it's going to end up being quite well represented. And when it comes to aquarium, Oceania is doing extremely well in my opinion.

Wikipedia lists Alces alces for all moose...
Ye, I guess that just proves that wiki is not the best source and it's my bad. The swedish wiki for moose does not list all moose as alces alces, just alces, and have a list of latin names for all the sub species https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Älgar

Thats where I got the alces alces for european and alces americanus for the north american. So I guess the information is different depending on your country/language.
My bad, and ty for correcting me :D

South America and Oceania already have more animals than they did in PZ1 base game

I think that's exactly the reason myself, yes. But we will see.

It would be a different story if Frontier pulls randomly from the starting roster of, let's say 150 animals. Then I would get the concern, because statistically the selection is pretty skewed at the moment.
But they aren't showing these animals randomly. They follow their intern marketing logic, probably mainly based on nature reserves.

Maybe they will show a big new shiny trailer at Gamescom which only focuses on N and S America and commit the last month of marketing up to release to that region (would be strange because Gamescom is in Europe, but weirder things have happened).
Or they think every North American will play Grand Theft Auto VI in November anyway and that's why they will focus on NA in DLCs later (semi-joking here).
Who knows.

The concerns might be valid in the end. I even agree with some opinions/predictions.
But right now we all know rather little, and I will not be impressed, if people will end up being right.
Because currently it is just jumping to conclusion from a small data set, that is not unveiled randomly but carefully curated by Frontier.

Yikes what? You all do realize we're still 13 week away from release, right? Assuming they remain consistent at 8 more animals a week, that's 104 more animals away from the full starting roster... and of course, that's all assuming they reveal the whole roster before release... so maybe tone it down a little with the never-ending doom posts? You're starting to sound like a troll and it's getting really annoying...
Agree. Can certain ppl cool it on the doomposting. It is swamping the thread and becoming quite irritating.

Feels like no matter how many ppl make the same point that we are X far from release and haven't seen much of the roster yet, it is not getting through. So it doesn't feel like a conversation anymore but just a soapbox. It is detracting from other more interesting and diverse conversations we might have.

It's kinda funny that my first thought looking at the reveal of the eurasian brown bear was: "omg no, American players on the forums are gonna be sooo mad"
Yes, that’s what I thought too, and somehow it is a bit sad. We really ought to be enjoying this promo time, shouldn't we?

I see no reason to worry that certain continents won't be covered. Whenever Frontier gives interviews or statements about PZ2, they mention, seemingly in every third sentence, just how much they value community feedback and are striving to make PZ2 the perfect game for everyone.
Just have a little faith.

This latest blog post is so detailed and interesting, lots to pick up on, but I thought this was nice and felt pointed to us specifically:

There has really been a shift from the start of the release announcement. Following a bit of a quiet spell, and the end of PZ1 when we felt a bit, let's say confused, the communication has been superlative. From a period when I think we felt, dare I say, a little abandoned? Now I keep seeing people posting "they are listening", and I am posting this sentiment myself also. And they really have been! Frontier announced that they are only using the Discord for feedback, but I got these sense that they are still keeping eyes on our forum, and it is lovely to hear that they are.

They could just be talking about old forum threads like the original wishlist, but I think the whole concept for the new game shows that they are reading much more widely and regularly than this. The survey that they sent out last year reflected ideas that were spawned here first, discussed and organised by us, fleshed out by us and ranked by us, like we did here:

And not just the big stuff like animal redesign, aviaries, aquariums, reserves, pathing and foliage brushes, but more detailed things that we keep getting new reveals of in trailers, feature videos, blogs and newsletters: seasons, pregnancy, animal personalities, diversity in animal design, more choice of terrain paints, flexicolour everything, scaling, better hitboxes, herding, elevated null paths, interior lighting, easy mesh building, horizontal wood walls....just a massive diversity and range of the features we have listed on this forum has been picked up and made real.

Number 1 on that list? Exhibit reworks. And we don't know much on this yet, except that there is a whole tab in the new UI for 'Exhibits', alongside Habitats and Aquariums, so it is safe to say that something has happened with these. Can't wait to learn more about that.

So yeah, all this to say that this bit of the blog just got my all up in my feels. We give a lot of love to PZ and Frontier, even with our constructive crit and hyper reactivity. After the 'only on Discord' thing, it might have felt a bit one-way, but here they are telling us that they are reading and clearly, they've shown through their actions, they are listening. I love that for us!
