PZ2 news...?

Yeah... I was rushing looking for a new computer to get before October but now i don't feel that urgent need of playing the moment is released because for.now the roster is very limited in variety. Unfortunally i already preordered it because i was confident they would come up.with a great base game roster since they listened to everything else we asked for... But i'm regreting doing that.

Of course i'll join in eventually, once i get a new computer, but i'm not dying to play for now.

I think is valid to feel dissapointed and wanting to wait for an animal roster that aligns more with your needs. For me are the animals or locations that drive the creativity, not the other way around.

Just because you wont doesn't mean others won't I waited years to get planet zoo 1 simply because I didn't like how my home region was represented. I currently have no plans on getting the sequel until I see some dramatic changes doesn't mean im not invested in its development.

For a larger scale perspective look at planet coaster 2 barely a few weeks after its release and the first game had all but eclipsed the sequel in players people actually did boycott / leave on mass when the game didn't meet expectations.

I mean, I decided to buy this from the first trailer on, so I am very biased, sure.

And I believe you and others that they will wait. I am just saying that most won't and we all have to be patient again until everything from PZ1 is re-added.

Planet Coaster 2 is not the best comparison in my opinion, because the improvements from PC1 were much less noticable/convincing/asked for, I feel like.

what information do you have that we don't the latest estimate put us at about a quarter of the habitat species returning and maybe half of the exhibit animals. All current predictions point to having less than half of pz1 in pz2 which is not most. Based on current predictions the number of terrestrial animals may end up being less than what was in pz1 base game let alone having enough room for pz1 and the new animals.
Frontier have clearly put a lot of work into this game and have addressed many community concerns/wishes already.

I think we are just being overcautious with expectations.

I think (hope?) we will end up with the most needed species from each continent and a good handful more for Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Frontier seem to want to make a really strong game, and there are hints towards an impressive base roster e.g. two giraffes, two wildebeest, two gazelles, two (three?) eagles, lesser known species like the bittern etc. I think it's likely that we will get all base game animals back, a third or so of all DLC animals, a few new terrestrial species, alongside all the aquatic and avian species, and hopefully some more subspecies variation (possibly even both orangutan's, pangolins, leopards, tigers etc.).

With avian and aquatic species introduced and so much choice for further expansion there should still be plenty of scope for DLCs even with a strong starting roster (American Black Bear, Asiatic Lion, Harpy Eagle, Manatee, Whale Shark, various other shark species, Cetaceans, detailed reserve oriented expansions, returning animals from the rest of the previous DLC roster).

Of course, I definitely have my worries, and don't fully trust any profit driven company to deliver a product which goes beyond what they have established will sell. But at the same time it would make little sense to have made dramatic improvements in so many areas (aquariums, aviary, terrain, pathing, incredibly detailed new models) and fail at the last step by assembling a weak, kind of random roster where we get the Eurasian Bittern but hardly anything from South America or Australia.

After seeing the Tree Kangaroo's model update I even feel quite confident the Brown Bear will get a rework, maybe showing the new model when the Grizzly Bear is revealed?

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification.
I agree that the door system is inconvenient. Considering most large aquariums irl are accessed from above, it's quite immersion-breaking and limiting when it comes to habitats. My hope is that we can place aquatic species in normal habitats as well, but that's a long shot. For the time being I'll probably just hide the doors within walls or in underground tunnels so they're not so "in-your-face".
In most big aquariums you usually can't see the far end of the aquarium. So the doors will be an isssue only in circular room aquariums. I do hope for an upper platform option

Yeah no at launch PZ1 had 50 species, and 3 deluxe species. By teh current pace we will have more than 60 terrestrial species confiremd by launch not including the deluxe pack, plus any surprises at launch. Not great, beacuse it would mean that over a 100 habitat species from PZ1 would be gone unless they really surprise us with big number s teh coming weeks, but also not that bad

Same here, I will be sticking with the first game and Coaster 2 for now. Fortunately I didn't want to preorder until close to launch, and they still haven't convinced me with those fancy behavioral animations while the animal selection is lackluster. Hard lesson from PC2, and if we learnt something there is that it will take a LONG time before the game reaches a decent state in regards to variety of rides/scenery/animals representation.

More than 60 terrestrial species based on what math??

Currently there are 39, next week we get 2 which makes it 41... And 5 drops left before launch.

You, sir, made my heart implode. I just woke up and opened the chat, and since I was still half asleep, I read "Beluga!" I thought I had revealed a Beluga in the Zoopedia and quickly woke up to open it, only to see that it hadn't been updated yet.
I'm so sorry about that. I should have quoted the post I was anwering...

I hope the red panda is next.
A remaster for Boa constrictor and the eastern brown snake is more important. They look completely out of place

Currently, if we are going based on the blurred sign theory, the only way we will get an ostrich is they have specified that it's the Southern or South African Ostrich...
What about the blue necked ostrich/somali ostrich?

Haven't seen anyone mention them yet, but do any other surviving 90s kids here remember Zoo Tycoon 1 and HATING the bluefin tuna back in the day, because those little stinkers were CONSTANTLY unhappy???

I know they're bony fish #497681253 but ngl I got a little nostalgia-fueled, dopamine boost seeing them pop up today!
You can make a show with the jellyfish by the way 😆

Every aquarium must be big enough for the keeper door meaning no shallow ponds
I wish they'd add different types of tank entrance. I'm dreaming of my tanks having keeper paths above the areas that are visible for the guests with a small ladder to get in and out of the tank. I guess for pond feeding points they could add some flat rock for the keeper to stand on, which can easily blend into the environment or something that can only be seen in build mode.
🤔 Since we can combine tanks and terrestrial enclosures, I wonder if having both entrances would be absolutely necessary to care for the aquatic area

Wild Boar (may represent a distinct species Sus vittatus, also known as the Banded Pig...)
Why? They could add it and the european subspecies. They don't really look that extremely different, but different enough that you immediately notice it's the wrong subspecies.
Would love that one. Could also fit into a komodo reserve

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification.

Pretty sure we've seen aquatic animals in a shared enclosure with a terrestrial animal in one of the screenshots before. Was a bit to the side and I think only the animal signs were seen, so maybe it wasn't as noticeable

I don't want to sound to dismissive or antagonize some in this forum, but I just can't see many people refraining from buying PZ2 just because their must have animal(s) isn't there at launch.
😂 Reminds me of those people in the Steam discussions of the first game which were like ,,we won't buy it If the llama isn't in it" which immediately made me think, why even think about buying a game that you're not even actually interested in?🤨

Aren't jellyfish needing tanks like that in real life? So a option like that is absolutely necessary if we get jellyfish that are too big for exhibits

🤔 By the way, regarding the pre-order bonus: do we only get that if we pre-order the deluxe version or do we also get everything with the normal version? Financial situation isn't looking that great, so if possible I'd like to upgrade to deluxe at a later time😊

Of zoo games I played as a kid ZT1 was the best roster! NOT only was the animal roster good but even if I remember correctly the plants selection. I believe PZ2 is going to have a good plant selection. I also enjoyed about ZT1 was the in depth animal info and the cute pics they would put of animal families.

Just hope they'll do better research about plants this time. There were some mistakes in the first one.
Regarding other zoo games, anyone know why the official Android port of Wildlife Park got taken down?
It was literally the only actual zoo game on Android. Can't use my computer currently, so that would've been my only option😮‍💨
A shame Megaquarium doesn't have a mobile port. I bet it would be fun

frontier will you clutch with the remaining roster in the last month or so

Man, that sucks about your computer :( Hope you could get it fixed or whatever? My computer is running, Lord willing, but IDK if its going to run PZ2 LOL. Its a Gaming laptop but still can't be too sure..

Mine is also a gaming laptop. Cable doesn't work and I'm still stuck in the worst place imaginable, so my laptop would probably completely die if I'd plug it in there. It was constantly overheating towards the end even though it never did before. Last time before the Windows 11 trash ruined everything by somehow forgetting its own pin and refusing to let me set a new one, it even crashed while playing The Elder Scrolls: Arena.
My assumption is that it probably didn't get enough power anymore.
I think if I get a new cable, it would work once I can plug it into a proper power outlet.
I'm not completely sure, but I think it might be able to run Planet Zoo 2. Just hope I wouldn't need to run it on the lowest settings😂
Only slowly clawing my way out of hell, so it'll take a while until I could buy a new computer

Overheating and drop on performance could also be a sign of needing to clean out the air vents. If those are clogged up with dust they are gonna take a toll

Need to clean it anyways so I can put it into my box for moving. 😮‍💨 Hope everything will go well from now on. Got offered a job and might be able to get a apartment soon. But also need to manage a frustrating financial problem on the side, so I'm worried

OMG I just had an idea about the reserves and the more I think about it, the more I think it has legs - and I'm getting quite excited about it!!

What if the reason we have only seen two reserves so far is because they are the only two that are unlocked at the start of the game, but as you prove yourself on these reserves, you can unlock others through gameplay?

They have spoken about building your career and your network with FEN - so this makes perfect sense! Maybe they branch out into different trees, like the Scottish one is focused on rewilding skills and unlocks perhaps the other European or a North American one, while the African one is more about your research and management skills and it unlocks one in South America or Sumatra? Or perhaps you get to choose which reserve you get to unlock next....or they unlock one by one in a set order? Whichever way it works, it builds up bit by bit, so there is more gamification, just like we've been asking/hoping there would be: having to actually complete some gameplay before knowing where all the reserves are and how we get access to them!

Every mention of the reserves in the Zoopedia site mentions these 'conservation projects' and meeting 'specific requirements' - maybe these projects and research missions are part of the way that we 'complete' a reserve and allow us to level up and unlock new ones? The vehicles driving around might actually not just be for fun, but perhaps we have targeted missions to go on as the researcher ourselves, getting photographs of different wild behaviours and things??!

This would explain very very well why the roster has been so focused on the species for these two reserves during the build up, because they want to show the reserves fully populated in the video on Thursday (not long to debunk that idea, let's see!) But in fact, there is a roster waiting for the other reserves, we just won't know about it maybe even until launch, so that we can discover things bit by bit. Maybe we even unlock some animals through gameplay as well? So we won't even see them in the in-game zoopedia at first? That seems less likely but is still an idea... would be so epic though if that was the case! They could all be available in Sandbox for those who don't want to have to unlock them.
LOVE THIS IDEA

We've been averaging 7-8 new animals per week, with usually 3-4 being terrestrial habitat animals. I don't know exactly where the math would average out to, but certainly in the high 50s, which would be more than PZ1 BG even without at least a handful that will be revealed on launch day.
