Question about mapping....

1. I only map gas giants if I want to "plant the flag" in a specific star system, and the gas giants are the only things left Unmapped.
2. Mapping Earth-likes and Terraformables is the highest money-earner you can attain in Exploration. If it's credits you're after, then mapping those future homes of humanity are where the credits are at.
3. The "features" on a planet are irrelevant when I go to map it. Planting the flag and claiming the credits are all I'm after. Rarely if ever go to all the trouble of landing on a planet. My main exploration ship (an Asp) doesn't usually have an SRV on board.

If I find an ELW, I map everything in the system. Water Worlds followed by Ammonia worlds are also worth quite a bit, so I map those unless the supercruise trip to reach them is going to be more than a few minutes.
I reached Elite Explorer a short while ago so exploration is mainly about sight seeing, mapping ELWs and the credits are just a bit of icing on the cake.

You do understand that these probes are doing more than just filling out the Elite univere's equivalent of Google Maps, right? They're measuring atmospheric conditions, the chemical composition of different parts of the celestial body, etc etc. "Oh, Jupiter? Why send probes there? You can't walk on it!"Not everything in ED makes sense so here's my question(s):
1. Mapping Gas Giants...why?
2. Mapping planets you cant land on...why?
3. Mapping anything with no features....worth it?
Is that data worth anything?
And grats to varonica for landing on a planet that should have killed you.
Seeing unmapped bodies close to the Bubble annoys me.

Mainly the ringed ones, because I mine and I have to map the rings.
A quick estimate on EDSM shows I have mapped about 4k for an estimated 120mil, about half are first discoveries.
