Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

We were, if I recall, having a discussion about the various postures - let's call them that - that various groups have taken in-game.

I was replying to a comment made describing how some lawful groups choose to use the same tactics that outlaws use, but somehow feel they are different, because they're "good guys." I think i did a good job of illustrating with examples.

Which is itself providing a concrete example of a specific topic of discussion, as opposed to speaking in generalities. Not the same thing as targeting another group or individual, just providing an example to illustrate a statement.

This whole thread has not been about trolling. I've made that clear from the beginning, and I'm apparently required to reiterate that truth every few pages, for some reason.

If you are feeling trolled, I unfortunately do not accept responsibility. That is your own doing.

Yes I'm calling out the hypocrisy, glad you picked up on that. This whole Spear/Colonia thing is a distraction tactic, and it does annoy me that my theoretical allies (the Nameless) are apparently falling for it so hard.

I find these kind of brainwashing threads to be an annoying waste of time, it is like I am talking to a bunch of people trying desperately to justify their mis-deeds instead of just owning it.

While complaining that Spear are trying desperately to justify their own mis-deeds instead of just owning it. Except I'm not really seeing any desparation from Spear, they do appear to be just owning it.
Actually I would say the OP, along with SirGank, have shown a willingness to listen to other sides and also change their play style. Hardy brainwashing, I mean everyone pushes their point of view on others to some extent. That said, I do agree that the endless finger pointing between lawful s and outlaws is tiresome indeed.

Do you mean in the BGS sense about Spear's move to Colonia being a distraction tactic?

I don't know who The Nameless are, either. I am really not at all up to date on PMFs - I didn't even know what that acronym stood for until recently, as documented in this thread.

I need to reiterate again that, although I of course have my opinions about the game, I am here to discuss expectations around Open play with those who are not necessarily seeking PVP when they login to Open. I think their voices are important, and I feel this thread benefits from hearing them.

But I do enjoy the sideline of drama about the PMFs and their struggles over the BGS (which I also barely understand). It sort of feels like a soap opera that I enjoy getting little tidbit episodic updates about.

You might argue that I got brainwashed by the so-called "carebears," insofar as I was the one who changed my playstyle! LOL

I do enjoy banter between lawful and outlaw. I would like to meet some lawful players sometime and chat with them on comms. I suspect we need each other more than either would care to admit :D

For what are we falling, exactly?

I don't think you are failing :) But the whole Spear/Colonia thing is a distraction. Stuff is happening elsewhere too.

Look, you guys all talk to each other on discord & all sorts of places. I only play the game, and get the occasional PM here on those fairly rare occasions I can't be contacted in-game. You all seem to know so much, and have so much info available to you, and you just don't put it together to see the big picture.

So maybe stop complaining about Spear & just get on with it eh?

ETA this whole thread has just been trying to bait Spear members, hasn't it? Just trolling for bait.

Not the way I read it. The thread, on the whole, has included people who gank, people who don't like ganking, people who have never been ganked, people who play in open, people who play in solo. It's been an exploration of the game and what it allows, what it doesn't. How one set of players feel justified in how they play, how other players feel they don't need a justification.

As I write this, the thread is on page 122, maybe 2 or 3 pages ago, a new player asked why there wasn't a group of players that got together to protect new players like them form gankers. I told them of the group that did just that (I didn't name them). I had a little chuckle at the suicewinder situation because come on, that was funny. Since then, 2 or 3 pages ago, Spear have been mentioned. 2 or 3 pages out of 122 is not a thread dedicated to trolling them. If it is, it is so subtle that it has passed me by.

I am in exactly the same boat as this with the further isolation that no one has ever contacted me in game.

Hello. This is a really long, but interesting thread. What really amazed me, is the continiousely ongoing or recuring pro and contra discussion about moral and playstile with nearly everybody over everybody else.
Except commented by SPEAR ;-)
Therefore a personal comment as one of the officers of SPEAR.

Everybody wants to play his or her own playstile. Which is good and normal. So nobody wants that other people telling him or her how to play.
This seems normal for everybody and seems to be accepted in bright audience except for the imagination of SPEAR and how SPEAR should act...
We are not the police. The police might give you a warning or give you a fine. We are a specialized task-force, a player-driven A.T.R.! We decide about our way of playing the game.

If you are coming with a huge bounty on your head or attacking us or others in our declared area of responsibility, we will hunt you down with everything we have, according to the ED TOS and our defined rules.
Is this fair? We have been cited before: "A griefer cannot be griefed and a ganker cannot be ganked". Somebody who falls under this category and complains afterwards that we killed him, is only tasting his own medicine.

I already met many friendly and peaceful Cmdr's here at the nebula. For me personally -> this is the majority! They are not bothered at all from our actions on the current operation.

But don't tell us how we should play our roleplay or our game. And don't wonder if we also hunt you after flying with our enemies and gankers in a wing against us. This was your decision - so be ready for an answer with plasmas and rails...

If you want to follow people who are flying with the "Sidey-Express" in one jump to the bubble and try to threat us with statements like "blowing up harmless Cmdr's in Deciat until SPEAR leaves Colonia" this will be your choice. But beleave me, these people are not the victims as they try to persuade you... build yourself your own picture...

Meet us in-game and if necessary choose a side. You will find us in open-play.

Anyway - we are here and the A.T.R. Colonia [ATRC] will be the permanent presence of SPEAR in the nebula. For sure we brought some new content to Colonia.
So I recommend less discussion and more playing the game. See you out in the dark.

P.S.: Carcosa is currently not the best place to be for peaceful Cmdr's

But I thought that peaceful commanders had nothing to fear from SPEAR...

@CMDR M. Lehman

One of the disadvantages of anarchy-systems is the absence of law and order. Everybody flying into these systems is taking a risk of beeing attacked and killed by other Cdr's without any ingame-punishing (bounty, notority, etc.).
If you are aware that there is an ongoing fight from SPEAR against anarchy - why should you want to be in the middle of a potential battlefield? It will be common sense to stay out. But it's always on you to decide.

The most funny thing to me is folks in your squadron racking up NPC kills for bounties and then letting your mates cash in on them. Super cool BGS tactic, I guess.

In any case, you've killed each other more than you've killed me.

Your own actions speak loudly against what you wrote there.

So you are threatening people who mind their own business? People who take advantage of the things build in the last year, again this shows who you really are. Carcosa and Colonia was a save and friendly place before you guys showed up. The real locals, not your fake bubble friends, will remember. Until now you did not bring anything positive, just a disregard for local customs.

And now back to why do people who don't like PvP fly in open. For me it's because it's fun, even if 8 griefers try to shot me down. Some become friends and for others I pack my socks and sandals to visit them at home.😈

Ah , there it is! Is this the same mall YOU are searching all the INF you lost in some systems ? ;-)

Let's try to bring this back on topic.

One of the biggest issues with lawfuls is how personally you take the actions of outlaws. In fact, some of the biggest names on the lawful side of things proudly proclaim they're targeting not the CMDR in game but who they perceive as the person behind the monitor.

I daresay attitudes like that are the true poison in the well of the entire Elite: Dangerous enterprise. What say you?
