Question, how bad is the grind for reputation now without board flipping?

I was super excited about this update, then I read you can't board flip. So.... what are the faction grindings like now without it. because I still am way behind on my factions.

I never really board flipped anyway, but then I also play as an independent Commander just getting rep with local factions and the like. Not really a fan of the meta gameplay, intentional or otherwise.

Exploration data drops usually worked rather well for me in the past. Not sure exactly how much "exploration" I'll be doing now though.

Most missions have reward choices. You can opt in for slightly less credits, but something like triple rep. If you ask me - RIP board flipping, hope it never comes back.

What is/was 'board flipping'? I've played for four years. Perhaps I've been doing it and never noticed.

If you really don't know, board flipping is checking the mission board in solo for example, and if you don't like what you see, you log out to the main menu and log back in private or open mode. Then you check the mission board again. Rinse and repeat until you reach the mission limit to maximize profit.

Unless something changed with the update, I recall choosing rep being massive credit loss. 400k ic credits or 18k but REP +++, I wouldn;t call that "slightly less".

Board flip
Action of manually "refreshing" offered missions at the station by logging out, switching game mode and logging back in in order to receive more missions of given type or to given destination.

ex.
You go A-B route and want to maximize your profit. Your mission capacity is 20. Current mission board offers just 4 missions total. You log out from your current mode (say: open), log into SOLO and you get totally new mission board, at the same station, same factions. You accept next 3 missions and log out to switch modes to PRIVATE. Repeat circling between modes until you get all 20 missions you desire to your destination. Upon arrival you hand in all 20 missions and get reward for completing 20 missions. In opposite to 4 you would have without board flipping.

Why, thank you, Commander.
We at Cmdr Shivvi Enterprises Ltd strive to keep up the quality of our ninja posts, and appreciate when people notice.

logging out and back in in different modes to "optimise" missions/rewards... aka cheating.

How is it cheating? It's more like an abuse of a system working as designed than actual cheating. Taking a mission or two, leaving the system and coming back did the same thing.

The "grind" for reputation was removed when Frontier added the ability to pick rewards.

Also baord flipping was an exploit, Frontier said so. Sadly they also said it's an exploit they didn't plan to punish.

Hard to punish what you cannot prove ;)

Not having flipped the boards: It's probably abysmal. Like 1% per month for casual gameplay. That's what I had some time in the middle of the rank ladder. But it was tweaked so often that I wouldn't know anymore what actually counts towards progression anymore best. Or at all.

I never had issues with reputation gains. I really wonder what people you are doing to suffer. I just do my own stuff, choose rewards accordingly, do some charity missions now and then and it just comes.

Stop trying to see it as a goal. Just play the game.

Oh I've done my fair share of board flipping in the past.

But I recently got the promotion from Rear to Full Admiral just by playing the game. Very pleasantly surprised.

Took about a year though... and I play ~ 3 hrs a night in Fed systems.
