Question - Is pc version being curtailed because of console versions?

Many people play games on computers that are way more "potato" than an Xbox.

Simple answer, No.

If it were the case that we were limited by the lowest common denominator we'd all still be on season 1.x along with the Mac (OSX not bootcamp) side of the game with no planetary landings, engineers etc. As it is even the original PS4 & XB1 are well within the minimum requirements of the game & are about as powerful as the current "average" PC. The PS4 & XB1X are right up there with some of the more powerful gaming rigs that are about.

The only thing that all versions share is the BGS, that runs on an external server they each have their own clients & graphics settings that can be individually tweaked, either by the player (on PC & Mac) or by FD where necessary (on consoles). No system, console or platform is limiting the development of ED.

To add, I think people just use consoles as an easy scapegoat.

An Xbox really isn't that bad.

Sure, you might be comparing it to a twin 1080Ti, Threadripper PC.

But that kind of comparison is stupid.

I have a Ryzen 1600x and a Radeon Nitro+ 480 8GB. My frame-rate still drops below 60fps on planet surfaces like the crashed Thargoid scout with ultra settings. So I can't say the console versions are holding it back for me.

Conclusion: It is TJ that is holding back the game, not consoles...

Well, obviously!

@OP

The game is developed on PC's using Frontiers own engine, Cobra. The code is then translated/complied to enable it to run on other Operating such as MAC, Xbox and PS4.

Why do you not suggest that the the game is being held back by Mac's as an equally valid (but just as erroneous) posit?

Is the pc version being lessened so that the game will run on consoles? Will it limit ejat tjey are able to do?

I wouldn't have dedicated 3840x2160 Ultra UHD texture assets being delivered to my 1080ti if they were.

You won't see a console able to run that resolution for at least another 5 years. ;)

This rumour harks from way back in 1.3 when a sudden and denied graphics nerf hit.
However, you will notice that the nerf hit in June whereas the XBOX version was released in Nov. 2015.

Planets:

FDEV to this very day deny that the nerf had anything to do with optimising for the XBOX.

All I know is that I was running 780 x 2 in SLI at the time on a 4k monitor and the change was as sudden as the "beige plague"

I can't say that these were done to improve XBOX framerates, and a signed agreement made with Microsoft preventing them from explaining the limitations...

Tinfoil hat territory is soon reached and I'll stop there, at the gate.

However, what I can say as an ex-dev is that sharing a release between two platforms, even both based on windows IS GUARANTEED to splinter resources. So we can definitely say that the XBOX version is at least partly responsible for a slowdown in development of ED, if not directly responsible for nerfing the graphics.

The game is developed on PC's...

Developed on PC's what? You're missing a word there, mate.

On PC's software? On PC's platform? On PC's solidly defined abs?

Minimum spec for Elite is quad-core CPU, 4GB RAM, and GTX 470 - much lower specifications than Xbox or Playstation.

So no.
