Question - Is pc version being curtailed because of console versions?

The salt must be running in short supply that someene started taking a virtual swing at consoles again...the snobbery is strong in this one. This is like when mountain bikes first started appearing in the mid to late 80s...the roadies used to make fun of us saying it would never catch on cos they werent 'real' bikes.

That turned out rather well in the end I think

This rumour harks from way back in 1.3 when a sudden and denied graphics nerf hit.
However, you will notice that the nerf hit in June whereas the XBOX version was released in Nov. 2015.

Planets:

FDEV to this very day deny that the nerf had anything to do with optimising for the XBOX.

All I know is that I was running 780 x 2 in SLI at the time on a 4k monitor and the change was as sudden as the "beige plague"

I can't say that these were done to improve XBOX framerates, and a signed agreement made with Microsoft preventing them from explaining the limitations...

Tinfoil hat territory is soon reached and I'll stop there, at the gate.

However, what I can say as an ex-dev is that sharing a release between two platforms, even both based on windows IS GUARANTEED to splinter resources. So we can definitely say that the XBOX version is at least partly responsible for a slowdown in development of ED, if not directly responsible for nerfing the graphics.

Developed on PC's what? You're missing a word there, mate.

On PC's software? On PC's platform? On PC's solidly defined abs?

Some of those images don't show the whole picture though. The sidewinder is the easy one though, a lot of stuff that is now fully rendered in 3D where painted on textures. In reality the current sidewinder cockpit has more polygons then the old beta one. People just ignore this to highlight the parts that were toned down, and they were toned down for launch, well before Xbox was released.

As to the planets the first is an old non landable planet which has been turned into a landable one for with horizons changing the textures. Again nothing to so with the Xbox. As to the bottom planets pic, I really can't tell what the bottom example is so can't really talk about it.

I think: no. BUT I also have the impression that the graphics are too GPU demandend taking into account that some of them do look like year 2000 graphics.

The reason you are an ex-dev must be because you are not very good at it. Otherwise you would know that he Xbox version doesn't slow development down, but makes continued development possible in the first place by increasing funds and budget via sold units. ;)

BTW, David Braben said during Kickstarter that he wants to release the game on consoles, so technically you can't slow it down with something you always intended to do. Otherwise the PC version is also slowing itself down, which doesn't make any sense.

First, consoles are technically far more capable than the lowest PC requirement needed to run this thing. I think its the other way around. Second, different platforms can have different rendering capabilities, which makes it bonkers to have dependencies between those platforms. I'm on PC and my "LOW" or "ULTRA" doesn't have anything to do with someone else his "LOW" or "ULTRA" setting, regardless the platform. And last and least, thinking in conspiracy theories is soo 1960's.

But in the end, if you know crap about anything, everything is possible. So yes, nerfs have happened because of consoles. UI has been dumbed down as much as graphics. Even the questions on the forums have been dumbed down. My god, you should see the answers... ;)

Never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn Max...

Have to agree. I prefer the new cockpit look over the beta one. More real and less cartoony. Sure, the texture resolution might have been hit, but the overall presentation is more grounded.

The one thing I miss? Hyperspace transitions. Back when the screen would get bright and warp up when going into and out of hyperspace...

The day a base Xbox One can't run the game well at the lowest settings is the day we can ask this question.

Is the pc version being lessened so that the game will run on consoles? Will it limit ejat tjey are able to do?

Yes in the same season that FD expanded Horizons to the console market we went from an near infinite variety of planets to just two. One beige, one white!

Let's just let that sink in for a moment.

Heres a thought...when was this game released on console and when did this so called nerf take place? The timeline doesnt match which makes yer conspiracy just that...a baseless conspiracy.

Heres another thought. The devs have quite clearly stated this was absolutely not the case...so if yer saying that is the case, then ye may as well just accuse the devs of outright lying.

If ye could prove they lied, ye would have an arguement worth its weight in gold...but ye cant...and ye dont.

Let that sink in fer a moment ^
