Question - Is pc version being curtailed because of console versions?

It was actually, there's a wholesale thread about it on the forums...

Can you link me to the particular post you're referencing, where they said anything about improving the appearance of non-landables by sacrificing the fidelity of landable planets? I followed that thread and every dev-response very closely, and never once did I get that impression.

Well The Xbox users got short changed on this generation IMHO. Cheaper to buy a PC now.

yes it does.

You clearly haven’t tried the buy any 10 series NVIDIA.

In Akihabara, the top shelves of every shop were bereft of anything capable. Those shops that had stock limited them to one per customer per day.

And let me guess, those people "shouldn't" be playing ED, am I right?

Got news for you dude: Not your call to make.

And if you have top-end hardware, that does not mean developers owe you their focus so that only you can afford to run the game.

Get over it. Money does not actually get you everything.

There is nothing personal or spiteful about my post or opinions here. Im simply putting forward my thoughts regarding console gaming and how (it being the bigger market) can stifel technology development in gaming. Of course there are valid arguments to be had that are contrary to that opinion.

Im happy that we have our console community here and of course you deserve to play the game. This isnt a territorial or emotional issue for me, i thought this was a discussion about the pro's and con's of mixed platform development, when one platform is dynamic and the other static.

Love the Xbox one x version of this game(bar the crashes on 4k quality mode)
Only thing the pc version betters is Beta access, and maybe Microsoft/Sony hold back the patch process somewhat-sorry about that :)

I know.. this is a recent issue thanks to BitCoin. My comments where meant more in a general and historic regard.

If it pleases everyone.... for now... i will admit PC gaming is expensive.

Ferrari? Failed product.
Rolex. Fail.
Jus’ sayin’. Awkward.

LOL!

IKR? Kia makes vehicles that are more "affordable" and "available" but guess what, they're still CRAP and they still SUCK compared to other vehicles.

Making something more "available" to the masses doesn't necessarily make it "beneficial" to the market.

The PC is generally more expensive (once the new console price drops), but quite a bit for similar or better console performance.

However, games are usually quite a bit cheaper, and go on sale quicker and depending on your upgrade routine, can work out cheaper over time.

But then you have loads more accessories to buy and use. Lol

PC gaming is basically whatever you make it.
If you absolutely need nVidias latest and greatest card, then yes, it's incredibly expensive. Lol

Again. Bottom end. Elite is not a bottom end budget game. It aims for the middle of it's consumer base
Same as Ferrari aims for the top 1% and Kia caters to the 80%
They have budget and luxury care you know...

Imho investing in a expensive high end gaming rig is just not smart, you'll never get your money's worth.
It's like owning a Ferrari and crying that the slower cars are holding back the development of faster highways.
You don't buy a Ferrari because you can go 300 kph on the highway, you just can't because no country's infrastructure is made to accommodate that, except maybe in those rich arabic oil states.

Game developers will mostly always target the largest group of potential buyers, that is not the few percent with a monster gaming pc.

The thought that console would hold back pc is an illusion, if console needs less presure on the graphics then the devs will just lower the graphics for console without touching those for pc.
Isn't the game's size bigger on pc? on Xbox One it's 15.3 GB, if it's bigger on pc then a large portion of that difference is probably because of higher resolution textures.

I'll say that I havnt noticed ANY of the usual signs of "console erosion" that would be attributed to being multi platform. Controls are deep and intuitive, and graphics sacrifice nothing on PC. EDIT: In fact, I'd say it's the other way around. The consoles have to cram the broad depth of controls into a limited interface system (and does so quite well, but theres no getting around it)

The only thing curtailing ED IMHO is a lack of creativity on the dev side of things. ED has always had a very strong backbone of a space sim, but it's oceans wide and puddle deep. I really only boot it up these days to check out new stuff (as I still thoroughly support it's development!) or if I want a casual space faring experience.

Ejat Tjey is a very capable programmer, one of the finest to come out of Delhi. If anyone can ensure maximum capability across the PC/Console threshold, it's Ejat.

That's hysterical, and intitially went straight over my head.
I actually did a google search for 'Ejat Tjay' thinking he's some programming genius I've never heard of.
When google returned 'Did you mean: what that' it finally clicked.

Ahh.. we all have our moments, lol.

Is the pc version being lessened so that the game will run on consoles? Will it limit ejat tjey are able to do?

One could argue that the console version (at least PS4) is lesser because ED is designed to run on PCs. When a game is written specifically for a console, like the Uncharted series and Horizon Zero Dawn, it forces developers to do some very clever optimizations (and I'm not talking about swapping quality textures for crappy ones). On a PC, you just throw more hardware at the problem, which may result in "lazy" programming...

I'm highly confident that ED is not as good as it could be on the PS4, because I've seen with my own eyes what even a standard PS4 can do when it's catered to. That said, I'm very happy to have a game like ED available on the console at all :D

Many people play games on computers that are way more "potato" than an Xbox.

And with current GPU crypto craze, getting console to play games you love is smart thing to do.

PC maybe a master race, but current market is just screwed up in big time. I won't be surprised people will steer clear from upgrading PCs or caring to play games on PCs in upcoming year or so.

As for addressing two points raised in this thread:

* Everybody trying to use PC to look down to console players need reality check. I tolerate PC only because I can run Linux and I can modify Windows heavily if I required to run it. If PC vendors (and *cough* Microsoft *cough*) would try to remove any of these freedoms, I am leaving PC and maybe IT industry for good. It is that simple. PC master race was an irony full moniker from Zero Punctuation and people taking it seriously needs serious check with reality. There's tons of clever, good gamers playing consoles only. Dismissing them as not worthy is not just arrogant;
* It is time to lay down in bed notion that if ED would be PC exclusive it would have more "in-depth" gameplay. People really need to leave their expectations at entry, because there is no game that does that and more and more evidence piles up it is extremely hard to do. Said that, Beyond series seems to extend lot of basic core gameplay nicely and even that what is there provides hundreds of hours of entertainment of people - again, not every game is capable to do that;

I can't believe that 40 years later we are still having flame wars, it wasn't good then and isn't good now, just enjoy the system that you happen to game on.

Short changed? I fail to see how. I have both. I prefer console. KBM support is on the horizon. I couldn't build a comparable PC to my X for the same cost.

I'm looking forward to it

My EVGA 1080ti FTW3 cost me $749.00 direct from EVGA as a pre-order back when the card came out. That same card is now selling for upwards of $1500.00 USD! How much is an Xbox One X?

Granted, I can run the game at 3840x2160 at a locked 60fps with all Ultra Settings, but that $750.00 is just a fraction of what my gaming PC costs me! $4500.00 vs $500.00 and some change for 30% more performance in ED?

If I was on a budget, I would go for the X.
