Horizons Question Regarding Missions

So I'm trying to increase my rank within the Empire to try and get the Imperial Cutter. I'm a Squire right now and I tried to do a couple haul missions but when I completed them the progression bar didn't go up but stayed at 21%. Am I missing something? Missions are already terrible with their low credit rewards but if they also increase your rank by nothing, what's the point? I'm trying really hard to get back into Elite but things like this are a serious turn off. Someone please help. )=
I'm assuming that Effect on Influence in the missions might have something to do with it. But I'm not sure. If someone is aware of an effective way to raise rank I would greatly appreciate it. Spending hours trying to figure it out on my own is somewhat frustrating. Thanks for the help Commanders.

If you're wanting get the Imperial Cutter you need to improve your military rank. You need to be taking on the military progression missions on the BB. Taking on other missions will influence your status with a local faction but not your military rank with the Empire.

It says something like 'rank progression' or a variant of that. Plus it will tell you on the mission objectives what the earned rank on completion will be.

The first few ranking missions can be done by couriering data for the Empire. Now it used to be that after a certain rank you could only progress further by hunting/killing missions - this is were I stopped cos i dont do pewpew.

Im not sure now if that has changed with recent updates though. Maybe someone who has ranked up higher than me could add something

Not sure if I am the right person to answer this but I am an Imperial Prince and a Federation Post Commander but this has taken about one year to achieve. I am also one rank off Elite in Combat and in Trading and Two off Elite in Exploration and pilot an Imperial Cutter (you need at least 310 million credits to buy a basic one), a Python (you need at least 90 million credits), an ASP (about 30 million credits) and a Vulture (about 35 million credits for a top of the line fighter). Enough of the creds.

I received all of my Federation rank by exploring the stars (about five of my ranks came from this - 2 Federation and 3 Imperial ranks) and by carrying out specific missions required of me - sometimes at a great loss in credits. My Imperial rank was achieved by pledging to Princess Aisling after achieving a few imperial ranks (after those from exploration) by designated missions. I know that if you are not allied to the power the job is much harder but can still be achieved by maintaining a Friendly rank and performing as many of the special missions that you can - except the ones where you go back in rank progress (in Federation this is normally offered as Warrant Officer mission). In the Federation getting friendly with the Sirius Corporation helps a lot (or did when I went through).

You can see your progress on the right hand panel under you current rank (out of 100%) towards you next rank. However, you should note that it takes time and keeping your nose clean to achieve.

Michael Brookes mentioned a major overhaul of the military side of the game in this coming season, so I've been holding off doing military missions until then ;).
