We did. The answer was no. "There is nothing to announce at this point in time" - the usual reply.
I am just waiting for the Chinese language to be implemented and FDEV to put Elite on that market. A lot of the changes they've been making to the game lately suggest that. (All the stuff to make the game accessible to new players all of a sudden, which really deviated from whatever little of a roadmap we've had.
Perhaps Tencent said "jump" about a year ago...
Was it with that Tamara or Tanya gal who was in charge of translations at that time? I seem to vaguely remember a diplomatic corporate "go away" answer.
As for Chinese market, they always claimed that Tencent share is around 10%, and Braben still has the majority. Though public trading kills the soul of many companies as your company is no longer truly yours and you answer to shareholders... Just look at what happened to EA and Activision. I remember the time a logo of one of these companies was a guarantee for a good entertainment. Times long gone. Anyway, back on topic:
Chinese market is
extremely lucrative to get into. Just look at what hoops Blizzard was happily hopping through with the ban of the "Free Hong Kong" guy Blitzchung. And what lame non-apology was spewed from soulless corporate pr-oids and delivered by J. Allen Brack. It was all done to protect their interests on the chinese market, a market which censored Winnie The Pooh (sorta), and I'm not even kidding. If I were FDev I'd tap into that market asap. I think having Tencent on board makes that more possible somehow. But I know zilch about trading with China, especially exporting games there.
