Question to the users of Imperial Clipper

Back in Beta 2 when the Clipper was released the outer hardpoints (on the wings) were not able to fire at vipers/cobras (-> small ships) even with gimballed weapon.
Is this still the case or can I actually use it for combat now?

I generally keep torpedo's or missiles on the engine nacelles. when I first bought it, I tried various gimballed and fixed weapons, but torpedo's work and missiles work best for me.

Thanks for your reply :)
I dislike them, expensive and not for every day use. Would like to install gimballed pulse on the wings and go bounty hunting.

Well, i run my clipper as a trader, but at start i used it in the combat and it was pretty fine with 2 gimballed pulses and 2 gimballed bursts. But to be honest i was ony fighting bigger ships, the ASP was the smallest i think. But all the guns were shoting exactly the middle of it, same goes for the Anaconda power plant, so i would say they fixed it.

I use turreted burst lasers on the nacelle hardpoints (but only because I can't afford the turreted beams!). These shoot small ships perfectly fine when combined with some class A sensors :)

I watched a review of the Clipper on YouTube during beta that basically concluded that the ship is terrible for combat. Shame, as it's gorgeous.

Not necessarily so. I flew one in Betapocalypse (the last one) and it took my player kill count up from 2, to 40 in an hour or so ;)

Yes, but I snapped up that the hardpoints on the wings now can use gimballed. I absolutely don't want to use turrets or missiles, that's why I need a confirmation if gimballed laser can shoot at small targets (what they could not do in Beta). Checking myself would cost credits (loss when selling T7 and maybe Clipper), asking here doesn't ;)

If I had unlimited money the Python, but equipping it is 2-3x the grind of a Clipper. And it looks so awesome. Maybe I can use it now and farm the Python later.

Fair enough. If no one has answered you by this evening, I'll try and do some testing for you :)
.
But if you had to choose between a Python, Fed Dropship or Clipper for combat duty, which would you pick?
Clipper, as its re-buy cost is cheapest. If money was no option, then obviously the Python :)

i´ve used my clipper to kill smaller ships (viper/cobra/eagles etc), gimballed weapons work fine as long as your not too close to your target. Fixed is useless. I have used both Large gimballed pulselasers and large gimballed beam lasers combined with 2x medium gimballed class 2 m-cannons. Works fine with killing smaller targets at ranges over 5-600m

I can confirm they work absolutely fine. As said, up close you'll still find that they converge, but only the top or bottom ones will shoot, presumably because the others can't see the target. Keep then enemy around the vertical center and you shouldn't have a problem :)

Never have an Imperial Clipper but, as mostly being the receiving end of its fire, I have to say that those turrets works quiet well against Cobra...
In fact, when I was bounty hunting, the most feared ship for me is Imperial Clipper (yes, I know I'm noob)... I don't know why, I can kill Python, Federal Dropship or Anaconda without much problem BUT I have quiet some headache to fight against Imperial Clipper...
It basically can constantly hit me no matter how I maneuver + deploy chaff and all I can do is to resort to shield cell spamming...

After a few time of those engagements, I just give up hunting Imperial Clipper at all...

Thanks. Can somebody confirm this? Maybe by actually shooting at small ships? =)

Yeah. Gimballed on the large engine slots is fine. They don't turn up as far like the angled front slots on Asps and Vipers, but are still OK.

Its the bottom underside size 2 slots that disappointed me. You can't run these both fixed as they are still too widely spaced to both hit small ships at the same time.
