Newcomer / Intro Quick one: Scanning CMDRS

Hello folks.

If I scan another commander (not AI) do they know I have scanned them ie will they see and hear a "Scan detected"?

I wondering if it is causing folk to freak out and get the hell out of there! I'm just doing my nosey!

Cheers.

Once I get in and I hear a "Scan detected" you can bet your hiney i'll be gettin out of there lol. You aren't gonna fool me!

They won't see normal scan. (the basic one that tells you the name, rank and a wanted status)
They will, however, be notified of a Kill warrant and Cargo scans.

Ah thanks. I only have being doing that basic scan. Still to fiddle with comms for a brief howzitgaun/ nice boat there etc.

Once I know your wanted I check the amount then come and target them drives once them Drives are out, then I check the warranty and cargo

What? I don't want to give them a warning.

NPCs freak out if you ever scan them. If a player does so, it's likely because in order to scan you need your hardpoints deployed, which could be seen as an act of aggression.

It's a gesture of strength and respect. They can see our weapons. They can see we approach them open-handed.

I worked that one last night, I saw a 425 bounty fighter in a battle with a federal security, I didn't want just 425cr (the fine for hitting a clean target once), so I scanned the security vessel over and over, it completely freaked him out and the wanted guy killed him. Bounty was raised to almost 6k, then I took him out :)
