Fluffy dice were mentioned in one of the dev diaries, I think. I can recall a mesh for them on someone's screen. No idea if it was a comedy wind-up or if serious.

Let me clarify that, the beta builds are unlikely to be perfect and bug free, the quick verification test is to try and catch major show stoppers before it goes to the wider group and that would probably take a few hours. If a showstopper is found then it's delayed until it is fixed.

Ah ok. The beta period itself is going to be at least a few weeks, right? Because that is probably the big question on the mind of beta backers.

As for beta builds going to alpha backers first: making this flexible makes perfect sense. Instead of utterly breaking the game for all beta backers, they can continue playing the last working build while FD fixes the gamebreaking bugs.

Honestly, if i was a beta backer, i would want it exactly that way. If you get a new build and it breaks, you cannot go back. Makes sense to have at least some precautions in place.

It makes perfect sense, but telling everybody it was going to work that way as part of a sales pitch for new alphas instead of direct communication with current backers was a big mistake. Hence the recent acrimony.

Here's to a more settled time of it to release, and better backer communication from FD. And thank you to Michael Brookes for seeing the problem and coming to talk to us.

sorry, statements like yours make me laugh out loud. you sound like a very patronising parent.

but as you state, there is always hope :D

I fail to see what was patronising there personally. Still, always good to get a dig in I suppose.

Analysis:

Seek refund total 4.53%
Upgrade total 12.3%
Do nothing total 27.83%

Seek Refund
Seek refund is below 5%, the generally accepted threshold for a very meaningful statistic. Over twice more beta say seek refund than alpha, it indicates more positive bias by betas then alphas on seeking refund.

Upgrade
More alphas say upgrade than betas, this somewhat indicates that alphas feel the upgrade is worth it. By itself the beta 'should upgrade' votes are below 5%, so again by itself not a very meaningful statistic. But we can say there is a small negative bias to upgrading by betas.

Do nothing
Status quo 27.83%, probably the most meaningful vote, common sense.

I don't care
Thank you for not voting, it would skew the results if you did.

Thank you all for voting.

There are lies, there are damn lies, and then there are statistics.

Have you ever heard that quote? It has meaning.

How many Alpha backers read the forums in relation to Beta backers?

How many Alpha backers actually voted?

How many Beta backers actually voted?

There are approximately 2000 Alpha backers and 36 voted the first two options?

How many Beta backers are there? I bet a lot more than 2000.

Who voted to do nothing?

I voted "I am a FD employee" because the whole poll is meaningless.

Get after it and good luck. :)

Quoted for truth.

I'm planning the next poll about there being too many polls and people think that the results are actually worth something, sometimes they are... sometimes [for the good reasons just stated] they are just a complete waste of time.... I guess it keeps them off the streets.

Aliens all round us. Affecting our minds, invading our sock drawers. I can see the skepticism! But since Elite Dangerous don't include Andromeda proper, they will be shut out. So we will all be saved!

But they clarified things too quickly. They must be hiding something.

Thargoid under the bed maybe. :)

Still annoyed about the escalation of the "pay to win" features of Elite Dangerous. Not rage quitting, but still annoyed.

PS: Why is the poll closed?

I don't think you guys know what Pay 2 Win means...

Start another Poll, that's what we need.

FYI that's why we say under 5% is stastically insignificant and around 90 votes is enough for a representative sample.. That's the sort of thing you learn when you study a little more then trite common cliches. Knowledge is out there if you are interested.

Also I am curious when you grow up to be a real troll, what bridge will you live under?
