It does. I have encountered a lot of trouble vs Players and my data i gathered isnt worth it because 45 solo online players gathered it before while encountering silly AI. IMHO exploration data should be dealt with like the market stock. Supply/demand.

.... or someone in another instance from you did it.

.... or someone in another time-zone did it while you were offline.

You seem to be arguing for separate galaxies for solo-online, private groups and open-online.

Thing is "those product prices" will affect open online players that face the true simulation risks.

Lets say i take Sidey. I can and did down Wanted NPC's in Cobras or Vipers. Go. Do that vs players. You can easily run away from a NPC Viper in Your full-of-cargo Hauler. Try that vs a player.

Basically. In Solo Online it is easier to do it for You but You affect the market on a same level as the Open Online Hauler pilot running from a PC Viper. I dont like that.

I downed players in Cobras with my sidy not a big deal if you know how to.
I play in open play so? My point is that you can not call solo mode not beeing a Simulator oh and i highly doubt that there will be much PVP in the game after release. Why? See my post above.

regards Winter.

Well You may be right about it. I should just look at it like a difficulty modes in single player games then. Open Online being hard and solo online being easy (offline doesnt count coz have no multiplayer effect). Ok then. Thanks for clearing this out.

Again we are playing in a beta, with over 100,000 players, in just 570 star systems.

When the game launches, its unlikely to have more than 1 million players playing in 400 billion star systems.

Solo play or open play won't make the blindest bit of difference to you exploring and as said above, what you encounter probably had nothing to do with solo players anyway.

Youre right but as we will be able to own more than one ship i dont limit myself to exploration only.:)

Open Online being hard and solo online being easy

How is open play any harder? As I have already said, I have been flying around in Haulers and Cobra's with absolutely no shields, cargo holds hanging out my backside, and have barely even seen other players never known been attacked by them.

In fact, in the whole of the beta experience, the only times I have ever been attacked by another player outside of combat zones was what I mentioned previously.

And despite what you think that isn't going to increase, it's going to decrease because of the sheer size of the galaxy. Frontier themselves have said countless times that they expect you to rarely see other players - as I mentioned previously, that is precisely why they added the group play mode so that you can ensure it to some degree.

I will be playing online ( Open online play) **amended** all the time, i want a proper simulation of what it would be like in real time to fly fighter ships/cargo ships/explorer ships/ etc with ALL the risks that would be associated with it, that includes npc ships risks AND human players, i want the sense of suspense and not knowing what i will encounter on my next journey.

That is just my own idea of what i want from the game though and i in no way at all mind nor care how other people want to play/what experiences they get from the game.

If however i see too much kiddy behaviour that i saw a lot of in WOW and Eve Online, although i met some great people in Eve Online as well, i might consider solo mode, only time will tell.

With the vastness of the galaxy to roam around in i think people that prefer the pvp style of play will tend to stick around Core systems and those people that go far out into the void will either never or extremely rarely see other people.

There will be populated systems that most of the player base will stick to just for the sake of interaction with others. Hoped You can know that. Or You assume that straight after release every single player will just blitz to unknown regions of the galaxy?

I personally embrace people attempting to steal my cargo! Not because I am a good pilot but because it adds to the game. I will beworking towards ways of escaping with my cargo intact by what ever means possible. If this involves carrying some useless cargo to distract the would be pirate and then turning on silent running to escape with a much more precious cargo then so be it! If every now and then I get blasted to bits then that is also fine!

Thats exactly what i mean! :)

@Aldric.

Example incident. You (solo online) and Me (open online). Both in stock Sidewinders 8 kms from the very same outpost. Each of us carring 4 tonnes of gold (price per tonne in this outpost is the same for us as online supply/demand affect us on same level). Now im getting attacked by a fellow player with stock Sidewinder and You at the same time get attacked by an NPC AI stock sidewinder. Who has to overcome the bigger challenge to get same amount of credits (selling cargo on the outpost)? Open Play = hard mode and Solo Online is easy mode. Like difficulty levels in a single player game.

.

Where do you get your numbers from?

I doubt there is 100 000 players in the beta. Its more likely to be something around 3000-4000 thousands.
Just take a look how many that was online on the forum when beta2 was released and we broke the forum record with about 3100 visitors.

According to the company's report on year-end results, it's 100,000 backers. Forum population is almost always a tiny minority of the people who play a particular game.

But I can play online with anybody I want excluded, it's a kill and be blocked world for those who want it.

Myself, I save the bother and play Solo online - I'd have preferred the entire game to have been a solo experience.

Like in Offline mode? It will be there. Soon!

Backers numbers are not the same as how many that plays in beta.
And I doubt that just 3% of the population that plays the game ( if it is 100 000) visit the forum. :)
Ah well we can only speculate in this as we will never get any accurate numbers.

Frontier will know all. Wonder if they'll share :p

As was mentioned above, Frontier announced that they had over 100,000 backers just before the beta process began. They actually had over 3000 alpha backers, so even alpha had more players than you're accounting for.

Obviously that doesn't mean that there are 100,000 players all playing at the same time, but on peak times at a weekend it's probably a fair assumption to say there's between 5,000-10,000 players. So when you take into account that number playing in just 570 systems, it's also a pretty safe assumption that when the full galaxy is open even 10 million players will be more sparse.

There will be populated systems that most of the player base will stick to just for the sake of interaction with others. Hoped You can know that. Or You assume that straight after release every single player will just blitz to unknown regions of the galaxy?

Read back, I did already mention that. The only places you are likely to encounter other players will be the hubs like Earth, which is exactly what we are already seeing in beta with Eranin, and any super lucrative trade routes that pop up again as has already been seen in beta.

But those will be few and far between. Frontier are predicting that the majority of players will spend the majority of their time in the far reaches pretty much on their own.

Given the size of the galaxy, I see no reason to doubt that.

Obviously everyone will want to visit Earth at some point, but there's obviously more profit to be made further out for traders and explorers, and that means pirates and bounty hunters are going to follow those out as well, which really only leaves griefers as a "threat" in tourist locations.
