General / Off-Topic [RANT] We know stuff you don't know

I don't think you can begrudge the writers having some inside knowledge anyway. They are engaged in the process of making the elite universe, something everyone can benefit from.

Kate Russell offered us a cupcake. I have not received my cupcake yet and I am becoming increasingly irate. It's all tied up in legal red tape at the moment, such as ownership of the crumbs that fall onto the floor and such and such...

That's it really. I still think that the writers should start their own podcast. Except Allen. He does too much already.

He has other priorities - marking student coursework and answering my emails being two (not necessarily in order of precedence there)...

Send him out cleaning vending machines for a while - that might refocus his attentions...

I am jealous of the writer guys having inside information. And I'm bloody jealous of Allen cos he's doing pretty much what I'd love to do. Especially with helping write the background information and whatnot along with others because as I mentioned when I first got here, I love false history.... (and real history too).

So I'm jealous as hell of people with access to this information and really want to get my hands on it.

But this is my problem not theirs.

Re: Alien... I sorta saw this coming from that first mail of yours I replied to, I think the best thing people can do here is give you a pat on the back and ask if you feel better now you have it off your chest and we can all move on.

I think that this thread right or wrong, good form or bad has served a purpose here and I think although the things said might have been better NOT said, I understand that almost compulsive need to say something.

So... I love everyone and this forum and Alien, Michael, Allen, the Lave Radio Boys, Psykokow and his abominible Onesie Fixation, Mobius and everyone.

I am bored of that conversation between the PvP and the no-PvP boys.

I decided at that point, I did not want to be part of such nasty, unhelpful community

With this statement about the community you've single-handedly offended everyone here. I've contributed to a number of forums over the years, and this is one of the friendliest I've been on; full of like-minded people to chat with about all things Elite and other stuff too. Everyone here is respectful, welcoming and supportive, couldn't ask for a nicer community. :)

I haven't seen any of the writers showing off or any "nudge nudge, wink wink" attitudes either, just a general feeling of mutual respect, helpfulness and like-minded discussion. Seems to be all in your mind Alien, unless you can back up what you've said with some tangible evidence. All the writers are seriously dedicated to making sure everyone gets involved to get the most out of the Elite universe, and don't forget, we're all Elite fans like everyone else here, even though some of us haven't been on this forum since it began.

Why take things so personally? The comment about 25, 000 people ignoring you is particularly bizarre. I've noticed a number of messages you've posted in the past, which to any newcomer hardly seemed welcoming. You seem to contradict yourself a lot, and you say you don't want to "rock the boat", yet by posting this message here, you're doing just that. You just keep on digging that hole for yourself deeper and deeper...

Seriously, whatever your problems are: let it go. Instead of spending time writing divisive messages like this (and I particularly don't like the unapologetic threat at the end, which pretty much implies everyone here), you could be discussing more stuff about Elite (both old and new) and enjoying yourself like everyone else.

Oh, and on the subject of cupcakes? I find the whole cupcake thing deeply offensive. Why? Because I'm hungry and haven't received mine yet either... People have a right to their fair share of cupcakes! :D

Well, me, not so much. ;)

Thanks for the post Alien. I don't want to merge together the different elements, so I'll just stick to the bit that mentions me.

I appreciate all feedback on stuff I do. I'm sorry my comments in the writer's interview came across to you in the way it has and touched a nerve. I had no intention of irritating anyone.

The criticism is duly noted and will be listened to in the same way I do with all criticism.

Hey Alien.

Don't give me those negative waves so late in the day man! Be positive dude!
Remember the fun we had when the kickstarter campaign was on the go? Everyone got on with everyone. Everyone pulled together to spread the word and everyone had some valuable input for FD.

I wouldn't worry about not being on the DDF or writers forum because I'm not. You have to remember that FD read all the posts and not just the DDF so your input will have value. There are a few things that I am not happy with myself but remember that no firm decision has been made on anything yet. The DDF can have an input but if the idea is bonkers or doesn't fit in with DB''s vision of the game it won't be in there. Remember, the DDF are NOT professional games designers, Frontier Developments are. They know what makes a great game because they are experts at it. They will not disappoint us.

So I wouldn't worry about what other people say. Just keep on posting your idea's/comments because if you don't FD won't know how you feel about certain stuff.

This is going to be a really great game when it's finished. Have a little faith baby, have a little faith......

oink oink - That's my new pig impression. Do you like it?

Pack it up guys we're heading back to Frontier Forums....

If we're getting things off our chests, I'm a little bit annoyed that I gave up a writer's slot on Tales from the Frontier so that Alien could take it. It was hers initially, and I recognised she had been instrumental in the project from the beginning, so I did what I felt was right. I would love to have been involved in the writer's forum, and now feel I gave up the opportunity for no good reason.

Fortunately I'm fairly philosophical about such matters, and know that resentment isn't healthy, so c'est la vie. I hope Alien finds a way to make peace with whoever it is she's upset with, and can continue to join in with the community in a happier manner.

Yeah come on Alien listen to Oddball, I certainly enjoyed chatting to you during the KS; there's no need to feel so down about things.

Just remember we will all be getting the game we have wanted for so long at the end of all this.

If I could send you a *hug* I would

Good Thread....Good to let off steam..

I myself dont have concerns about names being mentioned as long as you are happy to take it when they defend themselves...If not then it should have been private....

Most people went off on one at one time or another on the kickstarter and to be honest i found getting answers from Michael was like pulling teeth at the best of times :D However im sure there were many questions he was not allowed to answer and more than likely the sensible ones we all wanted to know.....So if you asked good sensible ones then that maybe why you didnt get an answer...Always best to answer nothing than dig a bigger hole and escalate things.

I think if people can afford to pay for privilages then they should get them....I have no problem with that...I would have loved to have access to the private backer's forum but couldnt afford it.....but those that could...good for them. I cant honestly say i have read anyone gloating about information they may know though ?

I agree with some things you say but not others and sometimes you do come across quite rude with answers although you may not mean to as you have admitted yourself on the kickstarter.... maybe thats why you get the odd retaliation ?

FD know and have admitted they didnt get the kickstarter quite right and were not as ready as they thought.....But we got there... and im happy so far all seems to be going really well.

PS...I think Geraldine is a great mod...she has great experience as well as just keeping the faith..

Hi Alien,
I'm sorry that you feel bad towards this community, because I also think that this is one of the best forums that I've been part of. I am also kinda jealous of the extra knowledge given to the writers, , but I've not seen anyone lord it over on anyone else.

I can't speak to the writer's forum, but it sounds very valuable but deadly dull there (or are these reports a cover up :p)! And I want cupcakes now :(

I am part of the DDF though, and we can discuss anything presented there with anyone we like, so long as the proposal has been presented. The only thing that they asked us not to share is the timetable for discussing upcoming topics, and this changes a lot anyway. In the past, I have shared details of proposals if they are relevent to a particular thread.

The main difference is that FD have committed to read every single post in the DDF, making us a focus group that FD can get ideas from; we are often given polls to answer, but they are under no obligation to abide by the consensus. After a while, all discussions are sent to the DDF Archive, which is public. I have to say to that I've really enjoyed my participation there, and think I've definitely got my money's worth :)- I didn't pledge in order to gain access, but instead got access as a result of supporting a game I care about a great deal. I think that's the same for a lot of DDFers.

So, you put a black mark against my name for the unnecessary comment of "you don't play well with others" well guess what, it seems like YOU DON'T PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS.

I personally have never seen anyone take that as a "position of seniority" or attempt to lord it over other members of the forum.

Yes, we must recognize that members DDF are quite sociable and well integrated with other forums. Most times members DDF participate on equal terms with other forums. At least for the members DDF that I spotted.

I paid for DDF access deliberately to force ED to read my brain farts... I figured it was FAIR compensation..

As for the rest,

all of them crooks, rooking the guests and cooking the books...

seldom do you see... honest men like me... a gent of good intent who's content to be...

OOOH i thought a musical moment might lighten the mood and tone here.

People that sing together don't hold PVP grudges....

I for one have enjoyed the forums and yes some tones of text can be misleading in both ways... so i think about the nicest way to take it, and thats the one I go with... unless it suits my reply to do the other... in well you get the idea.

Hello Ryan *special wink* he loves me!!!!!
