Engineers rapid fire vs overcharge, for pulse and burst lasers

I'm curious why the jitter goes away with higher grade. Everything else is flipped I.e. overcharged drains more energy with higher grades. I believe there was some other upgrade they decided to flip so that it equally offset the gain. If jitter is the only drawback to rapidfire, then it doesn't make sense they would remove it at grade 5. There would be no point to running OC.

Because jitter is making weapons useless, especially fixed ones, or if you want to target a module. There would not be a reason to roll higher grade to have jitter increased, but reducing a jitter is a good reason to grind for higher grades.
Even on highest grades a jitter is causing a weapon missing, even from distances <1km (ofcourse it depend of size what you are aiming to).

However, there is a lot of pilots who have not a problem with jitter at g5.

Aye same here!

Yes but now anything g4 or lower has no reason to exist, because the jitter is so even worse for a smaller added benefit.

Yup Inara is accurate g4 rapidfire/overcharged pulses are better than any g4 moded burst laser. But this is going to change soon in the upcoming beta after the changes the burst lasers will be the most efficient damage per energy weapons. You can read all about that here.

Sadly Mark already posted later in the thread they will not make bursts more energy efficient.

Burst Laser Efficiency
A few people are validly concerned that the efficiency boost to burst lasers makes them a new de-facto choice over pulse lasers, which while they do need a buff isn't the intent. For now we're not making changes but are keeping an eye on it and would appreciate feedback when you get access. One compromise might be to give them near-equivalent efficiency but leave the burst laser as a trade of slightly more damage for substantially more heat/power.

I read it that they ARE still making changes. Otherwise he wouldn't ask for us to keep an eye on it.
