Do you have to pay twice when you misspell?

Since the ED universe is our future universe, then all sorts of memes or modern day references are lore friendly.
Or you think people in the future won't call spaceships the Millennium Falcon or even space stations Thunderbird 5?
Exactly... I really don't get the whole lore/immersion breaking attitude. I mean, it's what people do. Weird names like Slapout, Alabama exist because... People. The "lore" behind that name is amusing and it stuck.
Really people, you need to get over yourselves, odd or funny names is just a part of life.
There's probably a whole science on how places got their names, which I don't claim to know, but I like to believe that names that stuck around were simply passed on between generations more often. Because those places were more important.
So make star naming a function of accrued player visits. Reward interesting systems and their architects with the possibility to issue names - say, top 5 systems by traffic per month / quarter get to be renamed (if their architects are still around).
To be honest I haven't even tried colonisation yet because I see little reason in making another generic 1-outpost system. But if it were to be slightly competitive, I would probably give it a shot. The reward being nothing more that community fame.
I built my outpost, figured it'd be a one and done thing... Nope, I have 4 other orbital installations, 2 under construction and one planet side outpost with at least 2 more planned and then I'm going to build a large orbital and one large planet side port. I plan to build enough infrastructure to have everything I need to expand in one system... Piper's empire!
This is how things should be.
1. To colonize a system you should need a FC (compulsory)
2. You need to have at least 10 Billion credits.
3. You can name the star system and anything in it whatever the hell you want.
4. You can colonize any star system anywhere in the galaxy, further the better.
5. You need to hold the rank of "Elite" in a preferred field.
Sure glad you ain't in charge...
Something like Agony Aunt's Demise or Easy's Reach - commander name prefix, and select word list.
Yes, Piper's Folly would be a great name!
I can actually kind of live with Enterprise, seeing the US apparently have a real history of naming ships Enterprise. When I see ship names like Rocinante or Normandy, that kind of makes me cringe. But hey. I am sure some people cringe when they see my favorite Viper is called "Grill-O-Mat Snack Bar". In the end it's all just personal opinions. Don't mind the old man yelling at the kids in the backyard

.
Hate to tell you, but their is a US cruiser, CG-60, named after Normandy, it is keeping in US tradition to name ships after historical battles to honor those who fought.
One alternative to the naming scheme could be for FDEV and the community to come up with some basic guidelines and the use Ai or volunteer moderators to approve them. The reality is if people ever populate the stars, they will name them whatever they fancy...
