I'd argue that shooting at someone is a form of communication... 
I am not sure what 'real player' has to do with 'ganking' or 'communicating'. Just because I dont know why someone attacks me doesnt mean he doesnt know. Or that he should know to be considered 'real'. Because if he is not a real player, what is he? Imaginary?
It's okay to cheat if people don't talk to you?
Ganking = Gang Killing. One CMDR can't do that.
Combat logging is cheating. It should be punished at least as severely as the recent engineering module thing. Clear save on multiple CLs would be very reasonable. If a CMDR disagrees with it, he/she can submit a ticket.

Pirates can substitute "TC" in lieu of "PPM", for "Tasty Cargo". Unless the pirate also powerplays, in which case HUCICTGYFYPPMAYTC will be the message. Steel yourself.

Well, eventually it will all boil down to semantics, what is communication? I think something as basic as a laser melting your face gets a certain message across. At least in my world it does.

I only use the kb for 'esc', ctrl-alt-del & to enable the camera suite, hence it is moved to one side to avoid compromising my hotas ergonomics...& during a potential combat scenario, I am a bit busy to worry about hurting someone's feelings.

So would a "Goodbye" suffice before they begin shooting?
I liked Skyrim in that monsters just snuck up on you and started beating on you. If we are going to consider versimilitude then no, communication is not a requirement.
Your murderer probably appreciates being called a ganker.
I think if I were a serious PVPer I would not waste my time with ED and combat loggers. I'd play some other space game.
