----- old post -----
Travis Baldree and Double Damage games who made Rebel Galaxy are working on a new space game, which looks like it could be a light space sim/shooter. Nothing is announced yet, but they have released two teasers on Twitter. If this takes the Rebel Galaxy universe and transforms it into a space shooter/trader/sim game I am interested.

The teaser was released in May this year, but no game has been announced, so it is probably some time away. Also it is a small or even indie studio, so one should expect a game with that in mind.

Here is the teaser

The first teaser was in January this year, here is that tweet.

Interesting, kinda looks like NMS from an artstyle. Both torchlight and RG were fine games, so will keep an eye on it. :)

Oh, good news, especially after reading the announcement, that their original studio Runic was just axed by PWI :\

It looks very similar in approach to RG, just less pink-space and more cockpit (I think, been a while since I played it) - actually reminiscent of fun shooters like Blast Radius or Colony Wars 2 (I never played CW 1) on the playstationOne thing I loved about RG was actualy was the volumetrics - neat clever stuff, really. Seems taking a detour from the galleon-cannons-in-space, which might be preferable.

Travis has teased with some new images and short video clip.

Short gameplay clip, looks intense

Hiresolution image of a ship blueprint - Coyote Heavy Assault fighter. Looks like it is the ship they are showing ingame.

Now that looks promising. I still play Rebel Galaxy from time to time and I really can't wait to see how this one turns out. From the looks of it it see4ms to be Fighters instead of capships this time but I love that they have seemingly kept their Country/Rock musicscore from RG. The music was one thing I absolutely loved.

Edit: Also, their artstyle for the cockpits looks great.

I agree. Probably the same universe and continuation of story as they have the foundation already. This time with full 3d movement and combat, and more of everything. But as you said on a smaller ship level.

I should go back and play Rebel Galaxy again.

Travis Baldree said that they did show the game at GDC recently. Still not openly, but it seems it is closer to a reveal. Then of course there will be some time until finished release. So still ways off. They have posted some more screenshots and animations on their Twitter.

I feel you mate. I just installed RB again today, loaded up a mod and had some fun. I was thinking how awesome that game could ve become if Double Damage would have decided to maintain and support it and push out some DLCs. The mods are okay but they dont really help all that much with world size and the few zones become rather "tiny" quickly. Travis and his partner mentioned in the past that they are "Macher" (german word for "man of action") so they finished the game and moved on to another project.

I can respect that attitude especially as they delivered awesome value and quality in their past games. I ll make sure to keep an eye on this new one and try to buy it as soon as possible. These guys deserve all support they can get.

/cheers

edit: no details known yet but this looks intensive. Maybe they are aiming for a real Wing Commander remake that certain other company failed to deliver so far.

My guess is that it is a new game in the Rebel Galaxy universe, but this time with fast paced 3D space combat in first or third person. First game had that broadsides naval ship combat style.

And they just reminded me that Wings of St. Nazaire also disappeared without a trace. Here's hoping this one stays :D

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw
http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/08/31/rebel-galaxy-outlaw-revealed

Developer Double Damage has revealed Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, the follow-up (or rather, a "sort-of prequel," as the developers put it) to its acclaimed 2015 space combat game. The studio calls Outlaw "a blue-collar space combat adventure packed with outlaws, explosions, gleefully unrealistic spaceflight, and a hell of a soundtrack."
