Regular Shuttle Service to (Colonia and Back)

I don't know why people have a downer about this. Say a dockable megaship leaves the bubble one day, arrives at Colonia a couple of days later for example - where is the harm? Someone can dock on the ship then go off play another account or go to the pub or whatever, you know other stuff for a couple of days, comes back to undock in Colonia. Where is the harm? They might even miss undocking and be stuck for another period as the ship heads back to the bubble. Of course the 500Ly per week travel is just stupid so its jumps would need to be more frequent than that.

I really can't see a downside. Illuminate my ignorance ye naysayers. ;)

Isn't the whole point of Colonia is that it's far away from the Bubble?

Yeah - but the use of a megaship transport won't get them there any quicker, quite the opposite. From what I have heard there is still a relative dearth of players in Colonia - maybe this would bring in some new blood? Or is your point a matter of exclusivity - i.e. keep it a bit of effort to get there and so keep the chavs on the old estate? ;) (note attempted humour)

I'd have no issues with such a service. But I would still want it to seem like big trip. I like the idea of it stopping at some of the way stations on the way. So one a week at the tick. Maybe just one or two though as that would make it a one or two week trip, with a week or two of local exploration on the way.

It would also mean it would still be quicker to fly manually if you have the time, so there is a trade off.

I like the idea because for realism yes these things like this would be available... but I dont like the idea of removing game play or just making it easy for the players who dont wsnt to work building an explorer so it would need to be just as expensive as it is to have your ship transfered. Right now colonia doesnt have the best outfitting so I could see somthing like this circumventing the established game story line theme... But yes the game could easily have a mega ship that weekly goes back and forth on the updates.

As long as it takes about the same time (or a little more) to transfer the whole ship /with the CMDR inside) as it takes to simply transfer the ship (or modules), I would be ok with it from the immersion perspective.
However, there would be the need to either balance the transfer time against the current timeframe of the various Colnia missions (very difficult) or to prevent CMDRs from bringing missions along (easy), including stuff like cargo for the Colonia CGs. That's my main objective.

Don't want to nerf travelling, would love a (megaship) shuttle to colonia that leaves at a certain time once per day or something like that and does it in one or two hops. Great idea.

What is the point of going out there? Not sarcastic question just curious what is there to draw folks to go there? Building stations or something?

Its a rapidly growing new human bubble. Too far for me to go and 'enjoy' the ride, but I would like to go see what's up. A year ago it was one accidental megaship, now it's untold stuff, even engineers. Bet it has a nice frontier atmosphere (no pun intended)

First time I went there was in an un-Engineered AspX. I'd been to Sag-A, then went up to the roof (my Gods, the view up there) and decided I wanted to see a station again as I'd been out for over 9 months.

I jonked for over 4 hours, and when your controller-of-choice is a Warthog throttle and stick then it gets really quite physical. By the time I arrived I was knackered, sweating and exhausted. I have never never been so glad to see a station in my life.

It was awesome.

Cool story bro (really) :) I will one day go exploring. Properly. At that time I will take in all the landmarks. It will take months. But it's not in the foreseeable future. Thanks for the inspiration anyway :)

Haven't been there myself, but there seem to have been a few more convenience requests about it recently.

- lack of large A-rated modules
- lack of convenient travel options
- etc.

I'm guessing it's mainly coming from the completionists who want the new engineers on their list, but it just seems to go against the 'underdeveloped backwater colony' feel that I think the original Colonia supporters were going for.

To unlock Palin I had to do the 5k ly I only had 420ly from starting star, so I did it in one setting went out to I forget the nebula but turned on netflix and just went. I wished I would have timed it but it was right at 4 hours I think nonstop out and back 124 jumps one way I didn't make it all the way to the nebula before I hit 5k so turned around so it was more like 95 to 100 jumps, all told I jumped probably close to 9500ly. I didn't explore much just scoop and scoot I did put my name on a couple of planets people missed or ignored. Anyway so I am thinking 9 to 11 hours to Colonia? Unless you stop at the stations I hear about between here and there?

Seems like a decent possibly idea.

Megaships have a certain range and flight plan. Just set a few to go back and forth, and people can use it as they want, undocking along the way, re docking to continue on.

Sounds great.

Would probably take longer than just doing it yourself, but might be more palletable to players who don't wanna watch the hyperspace animation as many times

Now that we have Mega-ships (and soon to have new exploration features), do you think a regular service to Colonia from a bubble based station would be a decent idea? Dock on a mega-ship (some sort of time delay here) and emerge in Colonia.

I can see this being abused with Colonia delivery missions, etc. so just have the caveat that all missions are wiped on route if you use this method.

Same for return trips. If this was done once a month (First of each month bubble to Colonia, 15th of each month Colonia to bubble), I don't see many down sides.

The cost for transport should be the same price as transporting your ship via the ship yard.

Terrible idea I hope Frontier never do this. Some people are so dumb. Give this question some serious thought: Why do you WANT to get to Colonia in the first place? What is it that makes Colonia different or interesting? Hmmm what could it be I just can't put my finger on it?

A magnificent idea and something that would give Colonia more life! Lets hope that they dont choose to implement it.
