The original idea of engineering was that high-tier modules would be very difficult to come by. Sure, they conveyed big advantages but by the same token were earned by spending hours and hours on something and doing something especially skilful to get certain components. Similarly the idea of the big ships is that they'd be rare and expensive. If you saw someone in an Anaconda, they'd spent ages earning it. It would be noteworthy and interesting to see - like an exotic sports car, see? Now it seems that you can access the big ships in a few hours and then engineer the heck out of them by collecting the bits at an accelerated rate. Unfortunately as they've become relatively "cheap" the question isn't "how did they get that 'Conda?" it's more "What's wrong with that person that they don't have a 'Conda?" &, especially in PVP, you need to have engineered the beast to stand a cat in hell's chance of fighting.
