Lord Brabus in his infinite wisdom has anointed me, The Chosen One to lead you all to the Promised Land. Do not fear my wisdom, for it is sane and just.

As my first proclamation, I shall cleanse the game of the Racing Paint, instruct the pencil folk to Crossfire the FAS and also create a Camo paint.

And then, then comes the Powerplay.

Can we have a Hello Kitty crossover, Chosen One ?

I can't help but feel like the kinds of people who'd want to be part of such a player council are the last people who should be anywhere near it.

These councils will tend to get the big names, the leaders of big groups, and so on - and they're typically not representative of the majority of the playerbase.
I have not changed my about this and this post is nearly a year old.

The vast majority of the players play solo, and the "big hitters" in the community, the loudest voices, the biggest groups, are a drop in the ocean compared to the overall playerbase.

The biggest individual squadron on Inara has fewer members, most of whom are inactive, than are pulled by a mediocre CG. Nothing against them, but no player group and certainly no individual can claim to represent "the playerbase".

You may. I have instructed the Art Folk™ to create HK cat head helmets, HK Aisling outfits as well as lunchboxes for the Artemis suit and decals for the Cobra Mk 4.
I saw the recent tiger helmet and I've been clamouring for a ulysses 31 lion head space helmet for years

and fdev finally released one

and it only came in red

the one colour that DOESN'T MATCH ANY OF THE REST OF MY STUFF

Ironically, neither does Frontier about demands for player councils, streamer representation in the dev and planning team, or frankly any of this.
Long ago, they did- at least for Powerplay. Each group had two reps and a number of times Sandro and Dav would pop up (normally because something had gone terribly wrong: as in Cycle 52) or to chat about ideas.

Player councils usually don't work because the players are selected by popularity and not qualification.
This ^^
I think the minimum qualification for being a council member would be to have a history of organizing major community events or initiatives that brought a lot of game play and enjoyment to the community. As then you're getting people who know what players want and enjoy. They know whats popular and fun, what works, and what doesn't. Plus they've shown creativity and dedication through the events they set up. Doesn't matter how well known someone is on the forums, or how many youtube streams and videos they made, until they've walked the walk and created content in the actual game itself, events that players take part in en mass because they're fun and interesting, then Fdev shouldn't look elsewhere. I think other games did that kind of thing in the past. Unfortunately for Elite, I suspect all the best events creators this game once had have moved on to other things.

Who did organise Distant Ganks? I forget...

Like I said, all the best content creators have moved on.

But its all a moot point anyway. Frontier won't install a council because that would actually require them listening to their players, taking their ideas on board, and adjusting their road map (if it even exists) to implement whatever a council comes up with. I think by now people should realize Elite is Frontiers game, Frontiers vision, Frontiers narrative, and Frontiers ideas of what constitutes fun via the cheapest route possible. They don't want players getting in the way of that.

Indeed it is Frontier's game. Sadly there are some players who cannot accept that fact and believe that they might dictate the game.

Fortunately, to date, Frontier have managed to mostly ignore them, I hope they continue to do so.

Does it matter how much is spent on fun, as long as fun it is?

Oh I agree. I don't think its a good idea to have a player council at all. In fact I hate the idea of players having a major influence in what they constitute what fun is, and how it applies to me. Their fun may not be mine. My response to Gleitfrosch was to agree that if, and god forbid it, Frontier went down the player council route I would at least hope they chose people on some sort of criteria other than them being the most "popular forum faces" or "YT influencers". Listen to players more, yes. Have players dictate the game direction in some way, no thanks.
