Newcomer / Intro Returning Player

Hi folks,

Just getting back into the game after a few years, picked up Odyssey. Some neat additions, but was wondering is there a way to switch back to the original style galaxy map? Not sure if I'm just stuck in my ways, or if the new map is just missing too much, but would love the option to use the map system we had before.

Thanks for any help.

Agreed. I was a little ticked when they changed it too, but, after some use, and a little time, I found it is actually better in many ways.

But it's still kind of frustrating because doing anything in EDO map takes me twice as long compared to EDH map.
Change is hard at first, maybe. I don't go back to Horizons anymore unless it's really necessary. It seems so bland to me now, and I can't stand up! lol.

I do have one account that is still Horizons-only, but I haven't played it in a long while.

Oh that's good to know, I could still launch into Horizons if I'm not doing ground stuff.
Yeah I'll give it a little time. I really liked the previous map system. But that's the way it goes in games sometimes, they fix things that aren't broken. Thanks all.

I think my favorite new feature is the mission list in the Galaxy Map. It makes getting to your mission targets so easy -- just press and hold on the mission and it automatically plots a route to your mission target, even if you've never been to the system it's in and can't see the System Map. Very useful (when you're doing missions! )

I have never seen the whole development hell of Elite Dangerous described more aptly.
It's all my games lately.
  • BF 2042 - broken weapon spread, dumbed down rank system.
  • FS22 - Hyper-saturated color textures
  • Atlas - New ship system worse than old ship system
  • MS Flight Sim (hadn't played one since the 90's) - there are no crash mechanics now?
  • Back 4 Blood - Nowhere near as good as left for dead.
And it goes on. I read about the community reaction to Odyssey when it came out. So far, besides the map issue - I'm pretty happy with it. So ED is on the up and up. :)

Yeah, Odyssey is fun. And mostly fine, now when comes to bugs.
Whole another can of worms is the question whether it belongs to Elite Dangerous (it didn't bring anything to ship gameplay, nor new ships or anything that would make Elite Dangerous a better Space sim). But let's not go there.
It's mostly fun.
