Reverski.. suggestions to stop or at least limit it

The issue here is a Python that cannot boost and without long range weapons
The other issue is a FA-Off, long range fixed weaps specialist mocking up another commander.

Seriously, ED is full of dirty tactics and this is what makes it fun.

FA-off isn't really a large factor here, the same can be achieved with either flight mode. It's a cheap move, the guy in the video clearly recognizes this and is probably just memeing. There are so many who just do this 100% of the time though, its so dull. I usually just wake out when I encounter it.

Yeap, this is what you should do. Or try to develop a tactic that can counter the reversky.

There are tactics you can use, but it depends what ship/build you're in at the time, it's not always viable.

Yamato made a good video about it a while back:

Suggesting the alteration of flight patterns is not.

I guess I'm just tired of seeing it, literally every other fight is some clown doing this.

Reverse thrusters should not outpace the main thrusters of any other ship though, it's silly. This game already has gameplay related restrictions to ship speed, so using real physics to justify reverski is a poor argument.
What's silly is that thrust produces speed rather than acceleration. "F" should equal "ma". Apart from that, if one ship has more thrust than another in a given direction, it absolutely should "outpace" it.

There are a few ways Fdev could reign it in:
  1. Reduce the speed in which the ships can fly in full reverse
  2. Add a heat build up for extended use of max-throttle reverse thrusters
  3. Add extra jitter to weapons if throttle is maxed out in reverse
  4. Apply a pitch & roll penalty speed while in full reverse
Thoughts?

Frontier has already heavily nerfed reverse flying by adding boost bleed to FA Off and capping FA on non-forward non-boost velocities.

With FA Off, you don't need any reverse thrust at all to reverski. Even with FA on you can completely unbind reverse thrust and still pull off a convincing reverski with lateral thrusters and small amounts of rotation.

With FA Off, you don't need to apply any throttle, the ship is just drifting once it's up to speed.

Pitch and roll don't matter much if your opponent is flying straight at you trying to catch you.

Ultimately these suggestions seem like they would add a heat and rotational penalty to all sorts of combat maneuvering that had nothing to do with reverski, without actually doing that much to make reverski any less effective.

I don't think enforcing an even more overtly atmospheric flight model would benefit combat and it would take an extreme shift in that direction to achive the effect you seem to be looking for.

You've accurately stated the reason why it's a good tactic.

I don't often use it because it depends on one's opponent to play into it...patient opponents do not do this, which renders it a nearly purely defensive tactic that is almost impossible to leverage offensively unless you can bait someone into following you.

My sentiments on the issue exactly. If someone interdicts you and proceeds to reverski, then you just jump away and continue on about your business.

In the end, it's just a defensive measure for a less maneuverable ship to attempt to keep their target in their sights. However, it requires the target to literally consent to be shot, if they don't want to be shot they could just disengage themselves - problem solved.

Imo it's an error to consider it a defensive tactics. A defensive tactics can be used by both opponent in a fight. What happen if both opponent start to reverski at each other ?
Reverski is not defensive, it's just a way to refuse the game to your opponent.

It's true that real starship should be able to do it. But real starship in real space will not start to fight in blank space for nothing. Their would fight where there is something they want to take/protect or whatever. Then reverski should not work because it would result in flying away from your objective. This is imo a major flaw in elite combat that result in reverski : no objective.

I don't get it, what about FA-off? When off, you become a turret in space moving into one particular direction, possibly going backwards at one point. Is that considered a reverski as well?

edit
Just now I see Morbad raised the same issue...

Simple, make all round thruster performance worse in reverski.

Though halving shield reinforcement from 4 pips on all shileds whilst halving the recharge delay on Biweaves and doubling the recharge speed would go a long way to kill off both the prismatic plague and detter reverski. Noone is going to want to risk going full reverse when all thier opponent has to do is stop and let them drift away because they will have full shields again in a very short amount of time.

Any nerf to reverse thrust will affect much more than PvP combat. Smuggling: boost into the station and become a decorative feature on the back wall. Landing: come down too fast at night and have a crater named after you. Thargoids: carry out a brilliant shard attack and then say hello very closely. Etc.

If both ships reverski at each other it's called a mutual disengage. What else would you call it when both ships literally boost in opposite directions away from each other?

That's exactly what i am saying (Wink smiley). If both ship reverski there is no fight, no game. This "tactics" revolve around the reverski ship hope that his opponent will actually try to play the game while he will himself refuse it has much as he can.
