Rift Higher Price than Expected? $600

Can't get into the shop still, but reports are that the Rift is set at $600. Quite a lot higher than I was expecting.

And this is with Oculus subsidizing the cost!

I wonder what price Vive will be...

And that's not including tax and shipping.
Out of my reach at the moment.

I was about to hit go on it but that price.... <ahem> it. I can wait.

They said about $350! also, 600usd !=700 euros! They truly can go bleep themselves at that price point.

<sadface> <frustrated> <feels betrayed>

£530 with no confirmation it works on ED.

looks like I am out :(

gutted!.

what happened to the comment from palmer lucky that they had missed the $350 target... but not by much?

if I KNEW it would work with ED on launch I would bite, but cant risk it for that cost.

Absolutely no reason to by the Oculus now, wait and see what the pricetag is on the Vive first. The low cost the Oculus has been hinting at was the ONLY reason to go with the rift in my opinion.

Soooooo glad I bought a DK2 now :)

It would be 699€ for me.. Talk about a shock! They dont deliver to austria.. Glad the decision of getting one is taken from me ;)

Well good news is, i guess dk2 prices will not drop to much after release :)

I am pretty sure I read somewhere the price point for the Vive was expected to be higher than Oculus initially as it is being marketed as high end premium blah blah blah. If the Rift is that high (little too steep for my blood) then I guess I will be waiting a while for VR. I need a new rig anyways so I guess I'll focus on that first.

Sheesh!!!!!

That's a subsidised price???

How much will DK2s be worth on fleabay now?

This would total 850 USD to for me. I could buy it but for something that might not even work with ED properly, I think I will just wait and get one VR headset instead that I want more anyways.

Perhaps if oculus goes on sale some day, but being owned by facebook I don't think that cashcow will be giving them small amounts of income so that wont happen anytime soon me thinks XD

Was very surprised with that price but went ahead anyway. I missed out on the DK2 pre-order last time and spent months on the waiting list before I finally got one so I didn't want to make the same mistake again this time. Let's hope the money is worth it! After all, up until very recently, people were still buying used DK2 for $600+ so it's not the end of the world.

Some how i doubt it is subsidised, no matter what they say.

Oof - was ready to preorder but £500 + shipping UK price has made me think I'll wait and see what happens this year.

Ye's are all mad. This is a serious piece of kit, first generation consumer VR, polished and ready to go. Only an extra 100 quid from what was expected isnt too bad imo lads. :)

What will you do if the Vive is around 700 quid minus post and packaging on release?

By the way the waiting list is already at April! :O
