Roccat Power Grid

Hi folks.

Has anybody tried the "opacity" setting on a Roccat button?

I kind of need 50% opacity to get my layout looking the way I want it. It looks fine on the PC editing utility, but on Android client, that grid doesn't exhibit "opacity" style buttons... so it looks wrong.

Any inspiration?

Could be a few factors there, best to post a question on the roccat forum. And or message CptMunta (roccat power grid dev).

Button pushes trigger TTS(text to speech) to 'Say' something

I wonder if those button presses could trigger TTS text to speech like voice attack.

With a 'say:' command. To repeat back the command, or what ever you want to type into the 'say' UI text field. Just like voice attack does.

With options on button press and release, double press etc. Could power grid hook into the OS (windows 7 and 8 ) mainly here, and allow you to type in something for the OS default TTS to say.

Voice attack would be an example if you need to look into a UI for 'say'. Same as play a sound file, but just using the OS default text to speech.

TTS played via OS or Android TTS
Also, an option to either use the OS default text to speech voice/engine, or trigger the Android tablets TTS voice. I realise some features wouldn't be available on IOS. But certainly would on android tablets and phones. I have various TTS voices on both windows 7 and my android tablet. So a way to trigger either would be good.

TTS is the way to go, if you have access to TTS voices with android and windows. Might be limiting to some non English speakers in the wrong country with the wrong OS type and TTS languages available.

Basically the same argument I've seen on the SC forums from some who cannot get VA to work because of the wrong OS version and or language.

I think it would be a good idea, and would give us complete TTS 'ships AI' responses from voice and touch screen controls.

I think this would be a great feature.

that would make life easyier if power grid did have its own section per button to send text to speech direct to windows speech ,, exactly like voice attck , but instead of saying the would to cmd, in roccat its button to cmd + speech ..

i have managed to add 1 speech file to a button so far , weapons now says "power transfered to weapons " , but the file is not always fired on press, more fiddling about needed its my 1st go, but promising

Many thanks CMDR Noctivagus, I'd never heard of this program before. I was using VA but found it often picked up on other sounds in the house and interpret them as commands, the most annoying was my squeaky Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS which was interpreted as "warp" (aka supercruise).

This program will fill the gap nicely until my X52 pro arrives (end of July?)

Anyhoo here is my wee attempt

Power grid

Just waiting for FD to implement comms in ED and for Roccat to allow toggle switches.

welcome to roccat lolol.. nice layout,, the thing about roccat and alike , example va , they all can be personnel setup to your requirements, but even though your getting a 52, like myself i have a 52 and a hog, and i still use roccat , ok not totally ED set, but for the other grids that come default with the download.... its a great visual addition to anyone's setup , 52 , hog what ever used as well

I think some more help from the devs is needed with playback sounds.

But my idea for TTS responses needs to to be looked into I think by the powergrid devs. And better sound file support with clearer OS (host) and tablet/phone audio options.

Your problems might be your tablets implementation of android, as could be my same issue. And or not a fully developed feature yet by the devs. I've tried different sample rates etc of wav and mp3 files and its flakey at best sound file playback and doesn't seem to work well with tablet button presses. Well mine does not at least. And I cannot get button sound from the tablet, only OS (host) and only sometimes or with a delay, which wont do.

One would hope they are keeping tight lipped about host and android updates because they are working on the next big update and new features.

Well we know they are now intrested in ED. And us useing it . So there will be taking notes . We can only hope some of what we say help the development. And also if not implemented. Now will be . Like we are now doing with ED. I love this sort of interaction between user and devs .

I agree, but also think the roccat dev's could engage a little more and also tell us what up coming features they are thinking about, sounding us out and taking more feedback about them. Maybe putting out a close beta. But I am happy they do talk and listen to us.

Driving more traffic to there website must be a good thing from us keeping the threads going. Traffic means potential addition grid sales. I'm going to need to buy some for sure when I finally get to play ED when it releases and with star citizen as well. Both games i'm sure could use 2-3 grids each.

I've been posting topics and requests on the roccat forum. And am getting a lot of new ideas for them. Maybe too many for them to act upon. TTS responses on both OS and android app might be quite a bit of development work if they are keen to try it out. We could test this for sure, I'm keen :)

Have you tried adjusting the command weight value within the VoiceAttack options menu? Try lowering the numeric value, that should help obviate those background noises interfering with your spoken commands.

Interesting, I didn't know this. Thank you.

Thanks for the tips but I have tried adjusting mic sensitivity, command weight and I've done the voice training thing but I guess the voice recognition software is racist and doesn't like Scottish people :p. I set up various command for the same thing ie for supercruise I could say, 'supercruise, warp, wharf, engage warp' and if as sometime happened VA just completely ignored me I would have a look and see what it thinks I'm saying and add that in too.

I'm liking Power Grid though, it has the commands I need, it's a gadget :) and has so far worked perfectly for me.

You say you've done the OS test to speech voice training. Try doing the training 3-5 times over and saving to the same profile. The more times the better the system will adjust to your various inflections and variations when repeating the same training paragraphs several times. It did in my case work wonders once I run thru the training 4 times in a row, it then picked up on my lazy words.

I've just bought the CereProc [LINK] Scottish voice 'Stuart' and 'Heather', and also recently the IVONA Indian English 'Raveena'.

Also, this might help, what mic are you using, a quality headset mic. Try increasing the mic's sample rate and bit depth to 24bit 4800Hz (Studio) (or its max). If you able to that is. Some USB headsets with built in sound cards often lock to 16bit 44.1 CD. And most wireless mic/headsets often show as 'tape quality' for mic quality, which is usually not great.

And lower the mic level via the OS panel to 70-80%.

I've only ran through the training twice (I think). I'm using the Razer Megalodon headset which is locked at 16bit 48.0 DVD. I will try again in a few weeks as I'm away with work from tomorrow. VA was working rather well for me for a couple of weeks but in the past week it's accuracy just dropped of the scale. I will try resetting everything back to default too.

I do like using the power grid though as I get to use my speakers and feel the vibrations in the floor when exiting from a jump :D something which I can't do when using VA.

Many thanks though, I will still try your suggestions when I get back.

Hi folks.

I've tried my hand at a custom ROCCAT thing... guess I was inspired by the recent competition. :)

Style was very much driven by Frontier's in-game controls and UI, so I've included their note about IP use in the Roccat text bumf (ie. permitted for non-commercial purposes). Also, I found the design aesthetics used by MoBIoS to be a pretty strong influence/inspiration.

So... in simple terms... I'm great a copying creative output from people who actually have talent. :)

I was wondering if I could get some feedback for different tablet clients. I've used an OPACITY setting for some of the buttons, in order to get the background bleeding through in a pleasing way. Unfortunately, when I use it on my Android device, the opacity isn't applied to the visuals at all.

I'd love to hear if it looks like the above pic on your device. On Android, the HYPERSPACE and FRAMESHIFT buttons have a fully black background, which isn't the way I built it. On the PC editor, they have the "hex" background showing through (as intended).

Cheers!

edit: Update on the opacity thing...

- Apple iPad: Buttons ARE drawn with 50% opacity.
- Nexus 7: Buttons are NOT drawn with 50% opacity.

I'm not publishing mine, my bindings in-game are all over the place. I'll wait until E-D releases before I do anything proper with my grids.

My current grids:

powergrid5_zpsc6169a16.jpg

Mostly pretty obvious.

Macro's:
  • Salvage Toggle - toggles lights, rotational correction and cargo scoop. One button for all the station tidy-up :D
  • Docking Request - opens Nav pane, hits UI select, UI down, UI select and exits Nav pane. It's for repeating a failed or timed out docking request.

Well done, its a good style in keeping with the game.

Using the button background pictures as you have it is very easy to see and understand the function. For a noobie like me this would be a good learning touch screen control system. When I eventually get into ED, which is when its released, I hope to have a huge range of grids to try out. But can see the benefit of your design. Good job.
