The cost and time savings by using this system to take off and land on a runway are huge.
One saving that I never see mentioned is in the construction of satellites, etc. If their journey into space is rather nice and smooth, instead of a high-G shaky rocket ride, then you can afford to manufacture to lower tolerances. I watched a TV program about building satellites, and they put the components through the equivalent of a paint-mixer to make sure the satellites will survive their journey. If there's a single failure, then that could be the whole satellite written off.
Most articles I've read just focus on the kilo per dollar costs.
