Sagittarius A*

Fellow Commanders,

Having completed my maiden exploring voyage I realised how thoroughly relaxing blasting through space is, and finding those unexplored systems, knowing you're likely the first there.

As such, in my suitably fitted Cobra Mk III, I shall be departing for Sagittarius A*, in the name of exploration and dedication (and definitely not part due to an achievement). It's slightly strange but it almost feels like a holiday, the planning and realisation I'm ready to realistically make it there, all thanks to the Kaushpoos CG 8mill reward!

That said, Dark Souls aside, this is probably the most intimidating task I've ever attempted, yet I am excited.

Commander Mallory.

The Cobra is a good ship - I'm sure she'll see you through. I'm on my way there myself, at the fringes of the core at the moment, passing through the neutron fields. Good luck on your journey!

Safe journey Cmdr. Mallory, i hope you enjoy it. Make sure you dont run out of fuel in the "brown swamps" - areas infested with unscoopable brown dwarfs. There are at least couple of such areas on the way to Sag. A*. Try to avoid them or equip your Cobra with big fuel tanks.
Also, if you would like to find more previously unexplored systems, dont follow the direct route to Sag. A*.

You'll be just fine... is not so dangerous as much as it can be tedious... the key is endurance that can only come from enjoying the view and the sights...

Will eagerly wait for your registration in the Sag A* List upon your arrival, to record you in!

Safe travels cmdr! o7

Good luck, Commander! I'm about 10 kly out myself, on my third or fourth trip (although one or two might have been beta excursions). It is a long slog through the same-old, with brief exhilarating encounters with interesting, odd, and even plain weird, systems.

Careful around neutron stars, and remember that whatever salvage you may pick up on the way will slow you down AND be illegal. Even a survey data can I found 7.5 kly out in among bits of a wrecked Asp (not my fault!) was illegal to scoop up and bring back.

:D S

As long as you go up or down a few hundred LYs (no more than 100-200 lys needed, avoiding the galactic centerline), you really shouldn't have to worry too much about the unscoopable fields. The fields can be quite wide, but generally not very tall, easiest to go above or below them.

But yes, safe journeys Captain - just got back from my Sag A* journey beginning of the week.

Safe journey!

I'm currently making the trek myself. I took a somewhat indirect route well above the galactic plane, and I've got a little over 6000ly left to travel. Reaching 20,000ly away from Sol was a nice milestone.

I've had fun seeing the sights along the way and discovering numerous neutron stars, black holes, water worlds and a few earth-likes. The density of stars in the core is something you have to see for yourself to truly appreciate!

After I stopoff at Sagittarius A* and sign the visitor book I'll probably plot another roundabout route back to the bubble. Or perhaps I'll find an uncharted area beyond the core and scan down anything and everything in the area...

Thanks to everyone, I'm about 2000Ly's in, not much of a dent but already got a lot of data and seen some strange systems. Making a little journal as I go, helps to fill in the fuel scooping pauses and as a record of the whole adventure!

Bring on the first black hole.

Brief update to anyone out there.

I'm now approximately 18,000Ly's in, taken my time to explore and discover systems. Seen some really quite strange sytems, lost count of terraformable water worlds, normal water worlds, and normal terraformable worlds, however... no Earth-likes yet.

I was really surprised at how few pre-discovered systems I've actually come across, even in my relatively direct route (more toward the ceiling than the middle) - I think I've seen 1 since the first 2000-odd Ly's. Can't wait for an ELW, came across a few that looked the bomb but, alas, they were not. I also decided to traverse a brown swamp at some point in the hopes of re-invigorating what had been a dull mid-point, and that was certainly interesting.

Anyway, better get back to hyperspace, Commander Mallory out!

Safe travels CMDR!
Don't forget to make some nice pictures you can share with us. Every adventurous reach into space should be documented. For the sake of science and aesthetics of course...:D

Fly safe!
