Originally, there was no real need to combat log since one was just able to get away and the ships were somewhat balanced.
Then the RNGineers were deployed in order to force the already available but unused content on the players and now the forums are scattered with dozens of the same threads covering grind, griefers and combat loggers.... well played...
Well, Riot actually does. How do I know? I've been banned for raking up too many "game dodges" and "ragequits" (didn't ragequit, but instead of wasting my time playing with some trolls, I rather take the ban for leaving a game than staying in there).
It's difficult to tell on a case basis, but over some time, a judgement call can be made. *)
Mr. Braben trying to be "the nice guy who doesn't want to offend anyone" doesn't work in the 2016 internet. If they make game rules, those game rules have to be enforced. Or don't bother with an online game.
*) And when the matchmaker servers are extremely shakey (or my WiFi repeater goes berserk), I do have issues with "combat logging" myself, even in solo mode. You get interdicted, blow the interdictor to smithereens .. "connection lost" yay.
Indeed. As a PvE pirate it doesn't affect me, but it seriously affects my PvP brethern.

In all fairness, when the Engineers were first introduced there were a lot of 'this will break PvP' threads, and they had a point too.
OK, that's 1/10000.![]()
But what's wrong with restricting them to Solo / PvE?
So it would stop 1/3 (just making numbers up) of the combat logger population... I bet we'd see another thread about it soon.
I still prefer the solution to ban all combat loggers to solo / official PvE mode for one week.
People in this thread claimed that the game is broken because of combat loggers, while waiting for an offcial fix people could play in a private group so combat loggers don't interfere with their... enjoyment. Everyone who doesn't encounter combat loggers every 2 minutes could still play in open of course.

I really doubt that figure is that low.
Why does Pirating necessarily include killing the player? As said above, pirating could work in a PvE environment.
Well, I'd start like *every other gaming company running an online game* has started and ban the cheaters.
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...out-cheaters?p=4729826&viewfull=1#post4729826 :
(and is it that time of the month again?)
It doesn't. All of the PvP pirates i know will let the target go once they have handed over an adequate amount of goods, many of them are not so demanding.
But people still combat log even when faced with a pirate, because there is a trust issue, and many players don't even trust someone who tells the target they are a pirate.
On the other hand, there are some damn skittish people around. I've personally witnessed someone log off after i said hello to them while flying in SC. Of course, maybe they just don't like me.... but it definitely seemed like they were freaked out by me opening comms.
heheheh yeah a ToC cmdr never fought in the "PvP League" it was all just a bunch of independent cmdrs some witch were members of ToC and are no longer .... 2 were asked to leave (because of our members guide) the others left with them......
we have not quit PvP!!!! just taking a break whilst we get some fixes for wings and instancing....
besides when its just SDC at the community goals or at an engineer bases ganking everything its boring fighting the same cmdrs again and again ... I have love for this game but I cant say that for some of the playerbase hence why we dont want to play with you lot any more![]()
have nice day!!!
They are not banning "cheaters" because they know for a fact that their game is not complete or balanced in any way. Until they spend some actual time addressing the issue I doubt they will ban anyone for combat logging. Not to mention the net code may make it look like combat logging when it really isn't. I get disconnected when NPCs interdict me sometimes.
So until they fix their lack of crime, punishment, and balance. Then I highly doubt anything will happen to the "cheaters". They dont have ships balanced for any tactics other than offensive attacks. All primary modules and hard points are designed for close range dog fighting with no emphasis on defensive weapons or utilities systems.
Trade ships should be extremely dangerous to approach and exploration ships should be almost impossible to catch.
Trade vessels should have a whole different armor, utility, and weapon set not available to combat vessels or exploration vessels. Right now trade vessels have to be fitted for both offensive and trading. Which in turns make trading super un efficient. There is no such things as a defensive build especially since the addition of the Engineers. Sure a non combat ship might be resistant against one type of combat meta build, but not every build.
So once its dangerous to actually interdict trade ships or hard to catch exploration ships, then this issue will not be addressed. If they attempt to ban the so called "cheaters" , then FDEV is admitting that they know their game balance is completely broken and will never be fixed. I highly doubt that they will do that as they are constantly making tweaks and fixes on a WIP. Imagine how the game will be once its complete. These type of threads will just be a crappy memory to be sure.
That being so, I find it perplexing that a number of contributors to this forum continue to state openly that they combat log (not just 15 second menu log, all-out combat log).
It's difficult to draw any inference from that except that said contributors consider themselves most unlikely to be identified and banned.
In which respect they are obviously correct - because everyone with an interest in PvP knows of serial loggers who are still in game. These latter being - universally - players who attack the defenceless and then log to escape retribution (when they fall asleep at the stick and forget to high wake).
Ironically, their staunchest defenders are members of this forum who, for reasons I've never understood, think loggers are always innocents taking a desperate measure in an unfair situation.
It's been said many times - yet never seems to register, on this forum - that the worst loggers in this game are a tiny handful of sidey-slaughterers who between them probably have 10,000 player kills and who log ... and log ... and log.
As a pirate im fed up off people logging like come on as error said if you go into open your accepting player interaction but its the ones that turn around to fight you that are really pathetic for example I interdicted a federal corvette and told him to stop he turned around and starting shooting I brought his shields down and proceeded to take out his drives yet he logs but if he was winning he would expect me to die and not log.

Thing is, if you were to log off on this Corvette, odds are we'd never hear from that pilot complaining about how you logged off on him - because his ultimate goal was to not have his cargo stolen.
Now I have some very strong opinions when it comes to things like "theft" and "piracy" that I will admit color my perspectives a bit here. This is, after all, just a game, and items stolen are neither real nor of any monitory value. This isn't to say the time involved in obtaining these things is not of value, but if you're getting paid to play Elite, send me an application too, alright?
But I do hold a very grim view of theft - if you break into my home, or stop my car, or pull up along side my boat, threaten me, my family, my passengers or crew, I'm going to kill you. I'm not going to ask questions, I'm not going to be interested in your story. I'm going to shoot you, twice center of mass, once in the head. Then I'm going to call the authorities and my lawyer. And I'm going to instruct my lawyer to prepare a civil suit as well against your family and/or next of kin to sue for the emotion distress I suffered having to kill you. That's the reality of it.
No one has the right to take what does not belong to them, no matter their reasons. Zero discussion here.
But as I said, this is a game, and piracy is a legitimate occupation in the game, so I am not unsympathetic to the "cause" of those engaging in this particular occupation. It is also an occupation I do not engage in, largely due to my analog feelings about these sorts of activities, but also because I'm not a fan of PvP. But that does not mean others should not enjoy it. Though as I have said numerous times, I do not condone this behavior, however I do understand it.
As someone who spends a large percentage of time hauling freight, and often on a tight schedule - either for bonuses or simply because of actual time constraints, interdictions are a hassle. Most of the time that's all they are, just a hassle. But freight-running is not my sole occupation either - I also bounty hunt, mine, and even do some limited exploring. Pirates, especially smart pirates, typically don't prey on bounty-hunters, in fact it tends to be the other way around, though smart pirates try to keep those bounties to a minimum as well, to make themselves less tempting targets.
But freight-haulers and miners - seems miners especially, are shining beacons for pirates, and that's when my instincts kick in - and the hardpoints come out. And it's also one of the things that turns me away from such a profession - I know how tedious and time-consuming mining can be, so I'm not going to take advantage of someone else's hard work because I don't feel like putting in the effort myself. NPC's are really not much of a problem to deal with one way or the other. Live players on the other hand - well, rather than have to deal with them, I'd just as soon play Solo or in a Private Group, so as not to have to concern myself with them.
Granted, I'd not mind being able to go about in Open without having to contend with someone who is actively looking for PvP for the conversation and observation, but such is generally not the case, so you don't run into me in Open very often. I may pop in to help someone get started, or to shoot video of someone doing something neat, or to occupy space on a pad to chat a bit, or maybe to make wakes for people to scan. So if you do happen across me, do us both a favor - don't interdict me, because I promise I'm not carrying anything to eject - I do all that in Solo or Private. And if you feel like testing your skills - talk to me, we'll arrange a stock sidewinder match to see who's the better pilot.
Which just leaves one last group to address:
Those who find in funny to sit outside of stations, or coordinate with someone inside a station to ram and destroy people just trying to get out the mail slot because they think it's funny....
You should have been beaten harder as children. Shame on all of you for growing up thinking it's ok to act like that. You get called "griefers" here, or "bullies" or quite a few things I'd get moderated for saying in here, but at the end of the day it all comes down to the same thing: You've got a problem with your thinking. It's not funny, it's not cool, it doesn't make your e-peen any bigger - in fact it actually makes it smaller and the worst of you it's already inverted. I have NO sympathy, NO compassion, and NO tolerance. There's no justification for it, so don't try. I've known your kind in the past, and your kind has known me - that guy you don't cross. I might not be as big and strong, but I'm ruthless, clever, and a little crazy. I've tasered a few of you until you wet yourselves, pepper sprayed you when you thought there might be a "fair fight", or clubbed you with a frozen Stretch Armstrong. You deserved it, every one knows it, and I don't care. And here, if you get logged on and cry about it, you'll find no sympathy from me.
And that's really all there is to say on this subject - I don't expect anything will ever be done on an official level, because there are far more vastly more important things to worry about - like bugs to fix, content to develop, and all the associated issues with running the servers that bind everything together than that load of cargo you didn't get or that player-kill you were denied. The balance of power in the galaxy won't be changed by any of it, and everything else is really inconsequential.
I've played plenty of PvP games, and I've had this happen to me, more times than I can count. Is it annoying? Sure, like something stuck to the bottom of my sock is annoying. I just get over it real easy and move on.
So, that's the only reason you repped me! And i thought you loved me! *sniff*
Some do that for fun and profit. There was at least one incident of someone finding and writing up a list of pew-pew and grouped players and saying "I met all these nasty people - and for X amount of cash you won't have to!"
I love the smell of salt and excuses in the morning
is that all you can come up with? for info there is no saltyness just a love for the "game" something you may have forgotten
remember that this is a game and people play for fun and if it aint fun anymore.........then
