Wrong. You're all automatically assuming that the combat logger is flying an inferior ship and has no chance to escape, and that combat logging only happens in random ganking for no reason.
1) A huge chunk of clogs are actually combat ships, sometimes higher tier.
2) In 99,9% cases, there is a way of escaping. But most importantly, knowing how to avoid an encounter is HALF of the victory. Terrible ships min-maxed for max cargo capacity, failing the interdiction instead of submitting, flying in a straight line, low waking instead of high waking, zero situational awareness, trying to fight when you're clearly not equipped for it, all of these happen in open 99% of the time and NO IT'S NOT THE GANKER'S FAULT because YOU HAD THE TOOLS and ACCESS TO THE KNOWLEDGE, so it's your job to use them to your good.
Complaining that engineered ships are overpowering traders and explorers. WRONG, run a fact check. The best firepower increase you can get is around 50%. But, you can improve your shields by up to 400%, your speed by up to 200%. ENGINEERS ARE LARGELY A DEFENSIVE FEATURE that's most valuable for people who are recieving hits and actually not that profitable, even optional, for those who give out damage. Explorers and traders are the ones who profit most from engineers, so USE THEM FOR GOD'S SAKE.
3) Combat logging is a general problem, has barely anything to do with ganking. I dare to say that I got quite good connections with people who perform "ganking" regularly, even very very slight connection to SDC. Yes, everyone hates cheating s, but gankers are not that mad when somebody combat logs because there is no bond between the attacker and the logger. You know who is most affected by logging? Powerplay, pirates and bounty hunters, all of which I do:
Piracy in its current state is a joke. In reality, the pirate should be scary for the victim and the victim should either skillfully escape or give up sole cargo. INSTEAD, the pirate is AT TRADER'S MERCY, because the trader can just combat log at any time WITH ZERO PENALTY.
Bounty hunting. You see a wanted player who is interdicting traders. You attack him to claim his bounty. That's how the foodchain works, right? Welp, COMBAT LOG.
Powerplay. I've spent about six months as a powerplayer total, all of which in open. There's nothing more disgusting to me than a faction taking over your territory, that combat logs everytime you try to stop them. This is happening all the time. Just disgusting gery.
Forget your crime & punishment system. WE NEED TO GET RID OF THE LOGGERS ALREADY.
