Say goodbye to Anarchies

Black Market is not unique to anarchies. All the social type government stations have them too. I think anarcy stations shouldn't actually have black markets because their open market should technically already be that way, but that is all aside.

Odyssey players should care, at least, since the anarchy controlled stations are places to sell illegal stuff to bartenders and buy E-breaches. As for the others, well I personally sometimes do a bit of piracy in the anarchy systems, so I can get my hands on stolen goods without getting a bounty on my head and notoriety in the worst case. Selling the stolen goods in the black market is one way to affect faction influence negatively and I sometimes just like pirating for a change of pace. Then there's the genear flavour: A galaxy without hives of scum and villainy is a much duller place.
Are E-Breaches available in ShinDez? Asking for a friend...

Except power play restrictions in exploited systems supersede even the freedom of anarchies. Meaning for example in Hudson space even anarchies will only let you sell imperial Slaves on the BM. The regular trader will abide by the rules of the superpower.

I would definitely miss the Anarchy controlled stations, but you can apparently also buy e-breaches from Communist stations (), dunno about selling illegal stuff.

Miss, but thank you.

The issue is that the impetus to change needs to be far more financially immediate than "maybe this hurts sales."
I think it's a heck of a lot more than "maybe".

Given my peripheral involvement in the PR/Advert world, there is a LOT of research that goes into how much they'll make versus spend ( developing ). Much like movie ticket sales, which are projected (based on first weekend sales, reviews, exit polls, etc), I am sure that FDev has projected sales based on previous releases like Horizons. And I'll bet my Cutters hold full of Tritium that someone can pull Steam sales and show Odyssey isn't going to gain those same numbers, once we get past the initial purchases the hype train generated. But it will take some time for those numbers to percolate up to the suits in finance, at least enough for them to raise the alarm. So, no 'maybe' about it.. or bring a Cutter and some collector limpets in another three weeks, we'll work out the system later. ;)

But we're getting off topic.

The subject is what to do about Anarchies tanking. Asking Fdev to fix it is like praying for rain when your house is on fire, IE not very likely any time soon. At least looking at their track record of fixing issues the fan base has vociferously objected to. They'll fix a bunch of other things long before they get to this one. BGS stuff is not a high priority since PP turned into a semi-complicated toy/loot mechanic.

Can the players fix it ? As another CMDR suggested, "turtle-ing up" in a few select systems might work for a while, but it's a losing battle. In the past year or so there have been at least two community pushes to save Anarchy systems ( San Tu most recently ). Both successful in the short term. But these were single systems where anarchists could gather for a short time period. Not multiple sustained wars, which is anathema to all but the most die-hard anarchists.

I'm doubting we can fight ( and win ) this one. Not with such a huge monetary advantage to attack them and very little reward in supporting them. If piracy or being a criminal paid as well as massacre missions.. we might have a chance. But that points the finger back at FDev.. and burning houses.. rain... good luck, in a never ending cycle of pain.

My thought is that Anarchies will end up being a system state, much like war/outbreak/boom ... a temporary thing subject to change.

I've been away a while and I must say, it all fits together: reactionary cigar club politics going on all over. Federal wiretap getting approval, donut boy going to rule another period. No change, just angst and control of public freedom - no place for happy anarchies in this galaxy. : (

As someone who enjoys Odyssey, picking Settlement Raids on Anarchy Factions is very nice - because you don't get any bounties for cleaning out that settlement!

Compared to a Settlement Raid on any other faction you're stuck with bounties that you'll need to do tedious logistics for to get rid of.
Like spend ten minutes travelling to an Interstellar Factors.

Maybe some new gameplay could be introduced that you do get something like a "mark" on you if you attack these pirates.
If you make those more tedious to get rid of then regular bounties then the dynamic will shift the other way.

Realistically there's only one answer.

This won't be fixed for months as there's more important things to do than BGS tweaks (this needs to be carefully balanced- no one wants anarchies to go the other way and become some sort of easy mode). We can't change this and an answer of do more work to keep a system isn't going to fly. There's enough to do just with new weapons and space suits.

Trying to hold together something that actively wants to fall apart isn't fun. Defending against this won't be fun. Fun outlaw gameplay is going to be attacking lawful factions and generally causing insurrections across systems for giggles as far as the BGS is concerned. The game has changed and until (if) this is fixed we need to change with it.

Now, where are we burning first?

For Sid Meier fans out there... we've essentially been demoted from being a low-tier Civ for hipsters to being everyones' random barbarian content overnight.

There is no outlaw behaviour possible in Elite- The carebears will cry too much if you try steal from them and it isnt worth the hassle anyway. Thats if you even find them in Open.
Try to fight system police= ATR eventually turn up and provide an interesting fight then likely a rebuy.
The only real outlaw behaviour possible is ganking, which never gets old, but its not exactly a popular gameloop.

I have taken to attacking AX pilots just because it feels vaguely rebellious, plus the salt is epic.

I agree that having "criminal" factions to fight against is part of the fun.

The problem is that the current implementation causes that faction to lose influence every time a player does a settlement raid mission.

Lose enough influence and the faction goes to war. Lose the war and lose settlements.

In a few weeks there will be ZERO anarchy faction settlements. All Odyssey content will be of the "Illegal" kind because there are no criminal factions left. That's bad for everyone. Anarchy faction players and others alike.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before in this thread, worth pointing out a related issue: INF+ rewards for anarchy missions seem to be appearing far less frequently than for other factions, I personally haven't seen any on any of our boards for the past two days.

There won't be any Anarchy faction players either in a couple of weeks.

I didn't notice any changes to those missions. It's just filling the trade & mission buckets plus some bounties thrown in does nothing more than slow the fall to some degree.

Murder should be the defacto way to mess up a BGS.

As non-anarchical as it sounds, maybe those of us who support anarchy factions (myself included) should get together and come up with a plan?

We need our own space, a mutual defense/support pact, and recruits.

This is a game rules issue, not a teamwork issue.

The only thing we can really do is scream until FDev fixes the BGS.

Eventually they will be forced to address it as all the "Raid Settlement and kill the scavengers" missions disappear, and the players who don't care about the BGS notice.

It wasn't easy running an anarchy PMF with all the BGS levers stacked against them, like no access to bounties and being the target of every massacre mission, but Odyssey seems to be the last nail in the coffin.

A small snapshot of the influence drop for the top 3 anarchy PMFs by systems controlled since the update:

1. Explorers of the Anarchy - 36 star systems
View attachment 231690
2. Diamond Frogs - 32 star systems
View attachment 231687
3. Brotherhood of Terra Mater - 17 star systems

This is getting ridiculous. If FDev's idea of balance is having one government type fight with spears while everybody else gets a tank, well, mission accomplished !

Thanks to CMDR Fake Newts we have a related ticket. Please vote and contribute: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/35479
It's already up to 11 out of 23790 highest voted issues.

Can't hurt to point out this will negatively affect sales of Odyssee on PC and the console of your choice when it launches, since only those playing now can play in lawless space and visit lawless settlements. With the extinction of anarchies, lawless areas will disappear as well in a matter of weeks.
Hey Obi - thank you for this, I have passed on and we are investigating as a priority. We will come back as soon as we can.

To be honest general criminal gameplay is knackered in ED:

I really wish FD would look at in particular general violent criminal acts (which carry harsh penalties- the worst in game) being on par with acts like smuggling which are far more effective, easy and don't get punished like murder is.

Also, black markets pay a pittance, so stealing stuff is just a hobby and not a legit way to get rich (when it should).

Archon Delaines Rank 5 bonus is broken. In short, you can't get bounties with it (which is great and as advertised), but any criminal act done does not affect the BGS either when it should. It means that unless you stay at <R5 you can't use violence as a tool at all (which is crackers in a power with a leader who uses violence as a tool of control).

Please FD and @Arthur Tolmie don't forget criminals- free form criminality in ED is so restricted its a wasted opportunity currently.
