Notice Scan data bug fixed

Oh, we're going to get something.....

*glances in Zac's direction as he lays out some forceps, a pair of safety fingernail clippers, a cheap vinyl broomstick, a magic marker, a tub of semi-rancid butter, two tow straps, a handheld fan powered by AA batteries, a box of pickled seaweed and a huge bag of rubber bands on a purple blanket*

We'll get something for our time.....

omg sooooo nasty!

Purple, really? Heathen!

You forgot the Vaseline...

Oh No...
There is NO Vaseline....

Just a question to Zac, if anything happens to my exploration data, will I be able to send you guys screenshots of the system I have scanned? Luckily for me, I took screenshots of most system I scanned in the last 2-3 days... since the 7th or so.

First thing i do EVERY day is read the EXPLORATION forum....a few of us have been discussing this issue since the update on Tuesday & it's always been in the first 6-7 threads.
Some of us did post on this thread that we were staying put until the issue was resolved

Should head over to Butz station :p

But anyway, greetings fellow Commanders and Explorers! Although I have been reading the forums for a while now, I've only just registered.

I'm currently 10k light years out on my first ever trip to the core! Scanned 2 Earth Likes, 7 black holes, 4 neutron stars and many water world's, Ammonia world's and terraformable world's and Jovian's. In short, I've done a hell of a lot of detailed scanning.

I'm optimistically hoping that everything is saved. I have faith the issue will be identified and resolved, but the fact I have 3 days off work and planned on making some great headway towards the core is very disheartening :-(

Best of luck resolving this guy's and gal's! (P.S make it swift :p)

I suspect the reality is that FD were already aware of the issue, but until today they believed it could be fixed at the back end without drastic action like this. They have now come to the conclusion that this is not the case hence the announcement today. I'm pretty sure a Dev posted yesterday that we could continue exploring as the data was still being logged on the back end - this may be true but maybe there is some corruption or question about the integrity of it.

I'm pretty sure they will have full backups of the prior release, so I would be extremely surprised if they can't recover that data, but it may take some time. Most likely what's possibly in jeopardy is some of the data from Tuesday onward, but they might even be able to recover that - we will see.

I've been in deep space for 4 months and have over 125,000LY travelled, more than 5500 systems scanned. I'm less than 12,000LY from home. Are you saying the last 4 months of data is lost?

Am I still ok to travel back to ocupied space?

17,000Ly out - not actually exploring now, just honk / scoop / jump over and over/

aka S3: scan/scoop/scoot.

and I quote from the journal of Brudenell Voidswarmer, "My first trip....... I'd been out for 7 weeks, way past Sag A, dredging the basement. Then, one day the homesickness hit me so hard that I just turned the ship about and S3'd all the way back to the bubble. ........I'll never put a lifejacket on again."

As I have said elsewhere, I suspect that the post 1.4 scanning issue was not expected at all. Yes they expected the data to be missing since the backup on 2nd/3rd October, but they planned to copy that across. I also suspect that the reason that it took so long to acknowledge the issue (remember Zac told me it was all sorted a couple of days ago), was that they were not paying attention, and assumed all the problems were the problems they knew about and expected, and did not spot that it was something new and unexpected.

Not that it matters, really. They perhaps wasted a couple days, but at least they are looking at it now.

No.

You can check yourself by looking in your Galaxy map. Data is missing since 2nd/3rd October. Some of that may or may not be permanently missing: they are still looking into it.

Lucky me (50% luck I explain later...) I came back from a 2 month trip one day before the 1.4 update (October 4) and sold all the data making 13.000.000cr+. I checked my exploration statics and such yesterday and lost nothing. All my credits are there, the amount of systems explored and scanners are there as well. (I took pictures of all my 1st time discoveries that day as well)

About my 50% luck...the day before of the update my GPU died because of a lighting storm. :( Could update and then check the game yesterday with my "backup" multimedia GPU (Nvidia EN210 that I bought 6 years ago or so) at 4FPS to see if everything was good.

So as an explorer I had luck because I always had in mind to make that trip until 1.4 arrives. Started back in August 5th and came back in October 4th.

Hope no one looses their data...good luck commanders!

Can't disagree with what you put....but it was always my intention that if this data WAS lost that i would want to re-scan the area again....so i decided to sit it out

Ai ai ai!

Arrgh, and I had gone to the outskirts of the umm... 3 major faction area to get additionall cr's from exploring. Now how do I return without exploring? I can't trace to the same path. When exploring will be safe?

Good to have an official announcement, so thanks for that.

Hopefully it's fixed by Monday or Tuesday so I can play catch up.

Godspeed, FDev!
