I have seen plenty of people openly state that they have no interest in CQC. Their reasons are their own, it's up to everyone to play how they want. However it's a fact these people represent a portion of the player base, and since they've been advised by FD to stop using the part of the game they do want to play, and a lot of them being really far from the bubble as well, FD have effectively advised them to stop playing until this issue is resolved. You can't force someone to like CQC. And for the record, I'm fine with CQC and have had some fun in it myself - but there are people who dislike it and the period of them not being able to play has been prolonged by a late FD response. Now, perhaps FD had no way to diagnose this until the server update completed; but it seems likely to me they just thought it'd go away with the update being complete and them really starting to look into it when it didn't. Meanwhile people are stuck twiddiling their thumbs tens of thousands of ly away.
I've tried to stay positive; like I said, everyone makes mistakes but devs do drop the ball sometimes; hi-fiving them when they do just communicates it's fine to do so. It's not. And I say that while having the greatest respect for FD and a lot of love for ED. But the ball has been dropped here, and it'd sure be nice if it didn't happen again. Server hiccups happen, there's no way to avoid that in the long term; what they can do is make sure they address each issue as quickly and effectively as possible.
Or we can say "no big deal FD, we'll just do something else while you get around to it". Which would be fine if ED was a free game done by a volunteer mod team. It's not, it's a business.
