Newcomer / Intro Scan Megaships

Hi folks,

Can someone point out how to scan megaships please? I've found one but it tells me I'm not close enough and I can't get any closer!

I'm sure this is very simple, but so am I!

Since you aren't telling us what you're doing, I can only tell you my usual approach.
  • drop out of SC at the megaship
  • deploy hard points
  • select/target the megaship
  • trigger the datalink scanner (that first scan works from several km out)
  • takes some time for the scan to complete, longer than the system scan honk and long enough for me to ram the megaship if I'm not careful
  • wait. After the scan completed, it still takes a little time until all the subsystems are resolved and the ship log uplink I'd the last one
  • once you see the ship log uplink in the contacts tab, target it, fly to it (you need to be at less than 150 meters or so) until the scanner reticule turns blue again, then scan the uplink (again with the datalink scanner)

Check to make sure you are approaching the scan target from the correct side of the megaship as the scanner is very short ranged.

Smaller ships are probably best as they can get in closer.
