Scanners not working help

Fellow Captains

I have an Asp Ex fitted with both an Advanced Discovery scanner and a Detailed Surface Scanner but having the following issues.

1/ When i enter and scan a system its not always giving me the names of who first discovered the stars/planets as i believe it should (ones that i know to be discovered already).

2/ Upon approaching stars/planets my scanner isnt kicking in like i think it should (i'm assuming i can still can things even if previously discovered by someone else?).

Theses problems seemed to have started once i engineered them, are there any know bugs or something i can do to try and fix this?

Help appreciated

as for 1/ there are a number of bugs that FDev have been made aware of and are (presumably) working on, I *think* it is due to networking not necessarily pulling down all the necessary data initially when you look at the system

as far as 2/ goes - what mods have you applied? are you sure the scanner/dss is powered etc?

First discovered tags don't always display right away. Wait a few seconds and open the system map again and they should be there.
Tags are applied to individual bodies, so not all bodies may be tagged.

RE: 2/
Fast and Long Range scanner mod reduces the scan angle so you may need to be better aligned with the target. Just a few degrees off center and it won't scan.
You can scan anything that is labeled as "Unexplored". If it has a name, it won't scan since you already have the data.

Also, I have found that I cannot scan a body until my discovery scanner has "discovered it"
For example, I was close to a planet and tried to scan it but nothing happened. I had not yet "honked" the system though and as soon as I did, the scanner started.

It says nothing of changing scan angles with the mod just extra mass but regardless i was point directly at it, on that note though it could be as you said and already had the data

some systems ive been in for 5-10 mins traveling to stations with still no data on who discovered them.

Think i'll just lay off scanning until this rectifies itself, as long as i'm not been a biff and trying to do something i cant

Just to check since you mention stations - are these moderate-to-high population systems in the bubble? If so, they come pre-discovered, can't be scanned, and therefore don't have a player first discoverer.

Wasnt aware of this. Pity there isn't something visual to indicate as much.

Yeah. As Ian said, If it's a populated system and you have a system map even before you used the discovery scanner, the planets already have names and you already have all the data that a scanner would provide.

Visual indicator is that the body is labeled "unexplored". If it has a name, you already have data on it.

Your ships computer already has map data for high population systems. No need to use the Discovery scanner or Surface scanner.
There are no discovery tags on commonly known systems/bodies that you (and everyone else) already have data for.
You can't "discover" something that everyone already knows about.
