Second Screens and Controllers

Hi All

Been a while since I played but now I have free time I shall be firing up again. One of the reasons for not playing for a while was having to relearn and remap controllers time and time again. I use an xbox controller but I feel it does not have enough buttons after using a steam controller, I like the steam controller but find the touch pad annoying. I also cannot find another controller on the market that offers mappable rudders (shout if you know any, waiting for the all controller) and I was also using Roccat Power Grid to turn an android tablet into a control surface, which is no longer available.

Not interested in a joy stick so what other setups is everyone using? I want to either use the Xbox controller or the steam controller, thinking flight foot peddles might be a good addition in conjunction. I also would like to make use of my Surface Go as a second screen of some sort. Any suggestions? Same with the Android tab?

Some weird gear combo you wish for. Rudder pads won't enrich your input much, you'd free one function at best, maybe something else with good rudder pads. But this goes into pricey stuff so you'd go better with cheaper range HOTAS or some decent joystick.

I for one use cheap Logitech 3D Pro with Logitech G-13 gaming pad instead of throttle. Stick is flight maneuvers, targetting (basic) and SC control. All other functions I have mapped onto G-13, including throttle. I have set thresholds 0 / 25 / 50 / 75 and 100% with 2 additional buttons for small adjustments ( + and -). Other buttons - and I'm using half of the pad - are for the rest: panels, nav, maps, etc. Works fine for the invested cash, G-13 I had long time and stick is cheap. But I'm thinking about upgrading it to real HOTAS, for the feels. I have one on mind, waiting for shops to supply it.

As for the second screen and Surface Go - usually 2nd screen is used for 3rd party tools like inara, EDDB or similar. Surface Go can work stand alone, just open browser and have EDDB at hand - bonus for keeping your controls in ED (alt tab disengages it). Using it for larger ED display, not so much. I tried dual screen on my PC but having different brands it was no go.

I truly recommend REWASD. The Xbox One Elite Controller in conjunction with the official Xbox One Chatpad, VoiceAttack and REWASD is a joy to behold. The Chatpad will give you a full functioning keyboard at your fingertips. No additional software is required for the Chatpad, Windows recognises the Chatpad as a keyboard. All you need is to download the free Xbox Accessories app from the Windows store to update the firmware on both the Chatpad and Xbox Controller. REWASD will allow you reconfigure the Elite Controller peddles and more.
