See, THAT's why I don't play Open.

whilst it is not made clear, my understanding is lore wise that due to the privalaged nature of members of the pilots federation, people are not encouraged to ever murder members of those, due to the the negative fallout of such acts (a bit like made men in the mafia I guess)

as such I do not think (and please correct me if I am wrong) that members of the pilots federation count for such missions.

I am not sure about that. And I don't recall the exact wording of the "kill trader" missions but, I don't think they mentioned anything faction-specific about the "targets" beyond the "trader" designation.

If I see missions like that I will copy them down for clarity so my posts here can reflect the specifics of those missions.

And just to be crystal clear, I have not, nor will I ever, accept those type of missions,,,,,,

The missions themselves do not specify it.... I am just saying that they do not actively reward you for killing CMDRs. As ever the game does not do the best job IN GAME of explaining the lore.

I am just (I think) gleaning what I read from dev interviews as well as the DDF.
Ideally there would be the "complete book of elite lore" all of it in game and readable when ever we want......... indeed, at the start of our career I do not think it would be a bad idea for us to have to earn our pilots federation membership by filling in a quick multi choice form pledging our allegiance to it and essentially showing our understanding of the in game lore and law.

once we have done that we get our pilots federation "badge" as well as being given the keys to our ship along with our insurance details.

I am not saying we cant then go and break every rule in the book... but at least ignorance would not be an excuse then.

Good point....

I was thinking about the various requests for limiting PvP in open etc, I really don't think that it could be implemented since that's pretty much how the game has been marketed.

"Hey, we've got this great galaxy model and you can fly around and shoot stuff, come buy the game... except you can't shoot stuff because there are a bunch of whiners who don't like the danger but keep putting themselves in it"

Regarding "high security space" for all you EvE players, look at it this way. Space is HUGE... Given the number of ships that would be active in a solar system like Sol if we really had the society and technology depicted in game it would be next to impossible to track all of them and provide the instant kind of police response you want. That said, if you have "report crimes against me" turned on the police do arrive pretty sharpish when you get attacked providing you haven't gone somewhere daft. Sadly there will always be people that think being attacked by another pilot should engender a Concordokken style NPC response... Sorry guys, you're in the wrong game.

I completely agree that the consequences for mindless killing are negligible. I think they should be exponential and based on tonnage destroyed with a multiplier operating over time rather than the tiny amounts that they are at the moment, on the flipside if this is implemented before Fdev do something about bounty farming for rl profit it will badly skew the game. Have patience.

You forgot to mention the (vocal) group that wants to force everyone into Open.

There's also a bounty system to tell you what is considered bad and what is not. There's no problem in shooting stuff as long as you are ready to live with the consequences. Thing is, there is (almost) no consequences at the moment, but that will change with the crime update.

If you attack a clean player in a high security system, you should expect to get spanked so hard you'll get thrown out of your cockpit. Unless you're willing to start an all-out war with the security forces... :D
