Patch Notes September Update - Downtime and Patch Notes

Hello Commanders,

Due to our internal testing of the September Update running longer than we expected, the game servers will be available at approximately 18:30 UTC. Should this change, we will provide further updates!

Thank you for your continued patience.
my account still doesnt work.. its normal or not?

Oh, sh*t :))) Those new mode of Cruise assistant is just ridiculous! It just sets throttle to 75% - that's how it "controls" it :)))) And that I could do without any assistance! Oh, FD, that was almost useless update for me I've ever seen :))) We will probably never see an automatic supercruise driving assistant that could lay a course OPTIMALLY and most fast!
And I hope we never do. Flying manually has to be the most efficient way to do it otherwise what is the point?

News, FD has removed the immersion killing keyboard prompt...

...and replaced it with this:

ah right. he might be one of the folks trying to harass over from social media. There's a few who are (for whatever reason, which completely eludes me) completely obsessed with things I post.
Ah. Tough luck there. There's always someone, isn't there?

Still, for what it's worth, I think you have to really squint to make your first sig image mean anything but 'manager'. And, not to mention, I haven't heard anyone use the word 'minger' in a long time. I didn't think it was really in use any more, but I guess it may be a regional slang thing. 🤷‍♀️

haha I think "minger" went out with sticking your tongue down your bottom lip and scratching your chin :D It's weird, but I'll get over it. It's been happenign for like 3 years now, if anything it's just confusing as to why they haven't got over (whatever it is) yet.

Oh, I get that. That's quite understandable. But after a while it becomes harder and harder to see the love that's supposedly at the root of the disappointment and frustration. It gets drowned out, and leads you to start wondering whether it was ever really there at all.
Because we’re just all so disappointed in FD now. The promises of 2014 have only been partially delivered. I really love the game - so much I had to come back after a few months break - but they don’t seem to understand what they actually have. All the marketing talks of being immersed in a 1:1 universe - but the game (and FD themselves) treat us like “players of a game” rather than citizens of the Milky Way in 3305. Every little touch they make appears to be more and more immersion breaking.

And that’s what makes me sad.
You and me both.

But opening the game up to casual and console gamers (nothing against console gaming; I own several myself, but overall a very different style and feel of gaming) drastically changed the overall player demographic. It started with mostly hardcore fans of the originals as well as space game fans who were happier with a more sim-like aspect. Now it seems it's being shifted to a more generic and casual combat-in-space game to appease the more casual gamers. This means dumbing down of interfaces and mechanics to appeal to the masses; basically going for quantity over quality.

Unfortunately money is king; I was hoping DB would not let that spoil his magnum opus but it seems that the beancounters are in charge at FDev as they are everywhere these days.
