Not sure what the issue actually is.
You've had 1,000 hours play AND you're including optional hardware costs as if Frontier are responsible for your buying choices. Buyer's remorse is not a bug in the game. You do know you can buy a joystick that'll work just fine for £30/$40 assuming you cannot bear to use keyboard/mouse? Top end HOTAS purchases are down to the individual, not a mandatory requirement for Elite.
I built a new PC in April, (£800) should I add that to the "cost of the game" and my Oculus DK2 (£250) maybe? Or the headphones I got for Christmas (£99) too? I don't think that's a fair or rational argument. What you choose to spend money on to accessorise your PC is down to you.
