Server Dev Peteris: "while delay for FC is unfortunate, it's for benefit of the feature... make it as good and fun as possible"

Lets hope FD act on the beta stage feedback and actually fix as many bugs and issues as they can now they have the time, and make robust features that last.

Only then can the pause be justified- and that, moving forward we never have regressions in bugs or updates that were of Septembers quality.

I find it hard to imagine that the fleet carriers will provide any more gameplay than what exists already.

Ok, you can move the thing 500ly at a time and it carries all your ships but, ultimately, what additional gameplay would that bring that isn't there already? If you've got a well engineered exploration ship you could probably travel 500ly in less time than it takes to refuel the carrier. Ok, without a carrier, you can't mine when you get to whatever distant destination you've picked but you can mine in the bubble already without travelling far at all. It'll be like having a mobile station but there are so many stations out there anyway.

If they're bringing new gameplay with them that doesn't already exist then that's great but I'm sceptical.

The problem is not that they decided to delay the FC, but the fact that they are doing it again and again.
They had bonus year to fix the bugs and make FC happen, but instead they made buggy, unpolished September ARX update.
I just don't have a whole lot of confidence in them right now.

The first statement suggests they want to sort out bugs and stability issues to "set the stage for Fleet Carriers and the next phase".
The 2nd statement, by contrast, seems to suggest that the delay is because they "want to make this feature as good and fun as it can be".

So, which is it?

Are they sorting out a broken game to avoid souring the introduction of Carriers or are they sorting out Carriers to make them better?

Pick a lane, FDev.

Call me greedy, but surely updates should do both? Why has it got to this stage where everything is frozen, cutbacks on lore and story etc and meaningful inclusions are postponed over and over?

Thanks for posting this here! While I'm sceptical of what is being said, it's still good to know that this also was said.

Oh, they should.

I just start hearing alarm bells when people can't get their story straight about what problem they're actually fixing.

At this point they might as well push the 2020 update back to 2021 or 2022. If Fleet Carriers that have been in the works since 2017 wont be ready by December, how can the entire reworking of the foundation of the game for the "new era" be ready by next December?

I give the dev's credit and they have a herculean effort ahead of them, but I think the whole "bugs have destroyed the game and is unplayable" cries from the community has been blown way out of proportion, and exaggerated to no end.

Keep on keeping on Fdev, you do a pretty good job, despite what this community may think.
