Server Issues?

The entire US is home from work due to Polar Vortex

Gotta spin up some resources to handle unanticipated load

You think it is bad in the US? In the UK it was -5C where I live last night and tonight we are being hit with a "Snow bomb" which will result in around 0.15cm of snow according to Alexa when I asked it this morning. It has gotten so bad the Daily Mail has switched to reporting in Centigrade instead of Fahrenheit. You know things are bad when the Daily Mail changes the measurement units for dramatic effect!! I don't think many people in the south of the UK will make it through the night under these extreme conditions. I was looking for comfort in what might be my last hours on earth but the servers aren't playing ball. :(

In order to tell Elite Dangerous to create a Netlog file you will need to perform the following steps:

If you are currently playing the game please select Save and Exit to exit to the main menu.

This will allow you to access the Network section of the Options menu.

- Open the Network options menu.
- Set the option labelled Logging to On.
- Save and exit to desktop

Please access your AppConfig.xml which be found in the projects folder where you installed the game and open this in Notepad. You'll see a block near the bottom named "Network". Please insert the following lines somewhere in that block -

ReportSentLetters="1"
ReportReceivedLetters="1"
VerboseLogging="1"

Any new network logs produced will now include more detail, which will help us with our investigation.

Please attempt to recreate this issue in-game and then attach the corresponding network log so we can check it out.

AppConfig file location (default):
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-64

Netlogs location (default):
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-64\Logs

Once you have encountered this issue and have sent us the logs, feel free to remove the line of code from the AppConfig file.

Yes, it's bad in parts of the US, really bad. It's currently -20C in Chicago, in the middle of the afternoon, with the windchill it feels like -29C.

Things were working fine for me, for 15 minutes, until a moment ago. I was just thinking I should post a success message when it died...

Posted this synopsis in another thread but it bears repeating:

In either Solo or Open modes:

1) doing something, disconnect from server
2) click start / solo-or-open
3) watch ship spin for 60 seconds
4) get a second "connection error"
5) click start / solo-or-open
6) ship spins for 5 seconds, back in

Cycle repeats at random intervals. If you're in a wing, more often. If you're in a wing and this happens, you have to exit to launcher, wait 5 seconds, click "play" on the launcher again in order to reconnect to those in your wing.

Originally from Wisconsin, we'd end up fastening the top button on the jacket and pull the flaps down over the ears. And STILL had to walk to school in 5 feet of snow for 3-4 miles.

COLD!?? Ha! Makes the beard grow thicker.

Same here. Managed to log on 20 minutes ago and everything was okay then............bam!!! kicked back to main menu and now can't log back in.

Who knew that board hopping was that which kept the servers online.
All those manual disconnects.
2.8%? Hmmm.
