She's a beauty! (New ship revealed--Mandalay)

Krait - better
Any of the T ships - Better
Asp Explorer - Far better

Just because none of the current ones have a good view doesn't mean no future ones can. The first dedicated exploration ship in over 9 years should have really addressed this.

I've long hoped for a bubble style cockpit for exploration. Or you could have a cockpit that extends out like

But it's academic. It's not going to change now.

Yea, i'm absolutely NOT impressed with the potential view from the Mandy's cockpit
To me, AspX has indeed the best view, almost similar to T6 (and the rest of T-ships), Kraits are acceptable.

But Mandy? it looks to have quite restricted side view and not very good in front either.

Well... between:
  • it having an identical Mamba cockpit,
  • it being a medium (I think they also confirmed that, can't remember exactly) and
  • it appearing in a picture / screenshot with landing gear down but no folded wings,
something doesn't add up...
Just making conversation, is all.
Ah OK. I just literally wasn't sure what it was we were supposed to be talking about.

Can I get zero rebuy ship with credits? Pre-engineered one?

To be quite frank, zero rebuy is only really there to encourage new players not to throw in the towel when things go a bit Pete Tong. For those of us who have been playing for some time and are effectively haemorrhaging credits all over the galaxy, it's a non issue and of no particular advantage.

In fact I haven't even bothered with 'deploying' the zero rebuy version of the T8. I just paid the ARX to unlock the base version at a shipyard so I could buy one (or two...or three) and spec it out with in-game credits and a bunch of my own better engineered modules.

If you want to thank me for encouraging Frontier to keep the servers on for you, that's fine too. ;)

I really would like to see a video how you use ship with 'better view' in your opinion (probably phantom, or aspx, dbx?), because I can't imagine how it really is so important, if you see just a litte more on the left and right side of your legs.

Once you try Elite in VR, it will change your perspective (both meanings) of the game.

After I bought Q3, Asp Explorer became my absolute favorite. And Krait II, for AX combat.

Honestly, I can't describe well enough how the "open cockpit" ships feel magnificent. And the amount of spatial awareness they bring. Simply put, you are there.

That's why I thought too, that probably this hard statement about advantage of open cockpit comes from VR mode. But I think it is still a niche

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's one of my favorite M class ships in X4; the Osprey. One of my most immersive bridges in the game; industrial, under construction and with a great view ... a bubble on the front of a brick (a slow brick) ... if a brick has a front.
Any new X4 player should go to Company Regard (iirc) and find this free ship. I never sell it but I have lost a couple in combat.
There's a lot of things said in this stream of comments I have not heard in a while. Camera's for example were talked about many years ago. I've always suggested a downward facing camera for some ships (Conda, Vette, etc) and a rear facing camera for all ships, accessed with a pop up window in the hud. But ... didn't happen won't happen.

Some ships have good forward and down facing views. Other ships don't and some of those are the most popular ones (FDL, Vette, Fed ships, Imperials, etc.). Lakon and the Kraits have the best downward views even with the dashboard in the way. I can't remember what the Alliance ship views were like but they were front oriented iirc. It is what it is. This Mandalay seems to be more combat oriented instead of explorer. Maybe the 4th ship will be an explorer.
I dunno I'm just a grunt

Mandalay is announced as a explorer, so only cockpti seems to be problem for someones.

And about the cameras... Sometimes I use free camera to land in particular place. It is totally enogh for that.

How do you see where the Biologicals, or rocks are in relation to your ship on the radar? If you don't care about where you land then I guess a completely blacked out cockpit would be fine for you, and that's fine.

But I'd suggest if you're designing a brand new ship for an activity where looking at/for things is the major part of it, then as much cockpit view as possible would be a good idea. Which is exactly what I said however many pages ago it was now.
I spot what might be a bio from my search altitude of maybe 100m then approach and eyeball it either nose down or banked looking around at the surrounding terrain to pick a landing spot.

I then head towards that spot in a shallow descent levelling off as it disappears from view and focus my full attention onto the terrain image on the radar jiggling the ship until I get over what looks flat and shows OK to the ships systems. Then I turn FA off and drop gently to the surface.

After the number of times I have done this I am rarely very far from where I thought I was going to be able to land.

This is done with a Hauler and gear has been deployed since not long after exiting glide.

Ship mounted cameras and how cmdrs use them is not out of the realm of reality. Most sci-fi visions of future space travel had camera views accessible from the HUD or bridge.

I could view planetary surfaces with this ship (mandalay), done it with others - flip flop. IMHO, the best planetary exploration / surveying ships are those with down facing cockpits/bridges (Kraits, Lakons, etc.). My Krait Phantom is my best exploration ship and the long jump range SCO is wonderful.
