She's a beauty! (New ship revealed--Mandalay)

Conda needs it's hull fixed, period. The T9 sits at 850, the Corvette at 900, a good number for the Conda is probably 800. That would give it a paperplane jump range around 54ly. Still pretty good for a lumbering beast, but not silly imba. FDEV have ways to get stuck Condas on the fringes out of trouble, and there's always the possibility to save a ship stuck with no way to jump anywhere with a fleet carrier. Give INGAME advance warning via the messaging system to give players a chance to move out of low density space.

It's just not going to happen. It's been 11 years. Frontier aren't going to change Anaconda. So the endless "but Anaconda range is bugged" reasoning just is irrelevant at this point.

Decision was made. Pretending that one day it'll be fixed so everything else has to consider the mythical change (that isn't coming) just is not constructive imho.

The game is not perfect. Won't ever be. If it bums you out, take a break. I did. I find it much more enjoyable now that I've come back and see it with new eyes and a fresh perspective.

I care less about (often imagined) imbalance, and more that ships just offer a good value proposition. Weirdly, that seems to be the direction Frontier are also moving in.

Giving people more reasons to play, less grind and more serviceable ships. Sounds good to me.

The really magic part is that it has a high mass lock factor, despite not having much mass, so obviously the hull material can change its density whilst retaining constant volume.

Like the 16 MLF of the Type-9.

„Mass Lock is what gives a ship its jump prevention power. It's an energy field created by all structural things of the ships. It surrounds and penetrates objects in space. It binds the ships together.“ (CMDR Kenobi)

I like how we’re at the stage where in one thread people are complaining that it’s not good enough, while in another there’s people stating it’s totally overpowered.

We all know FDev are completely incapable of designing a game, but it does seem to me like they’ve accidentally stumbled across a balanced build - obviously it couldn’t be intentional.
I got an honest chuckle out of this 🤭

They could do one or the other. The feeling I just can't shake is that they don't care enough to bother.
... or cared enough at the time to choose not to adversely affect players at the beginning (whose builds and location in the galaxy may have been dependent on the Anaconda's range). After that time it was already too late.

Just like like lightweight armour, fuel scoops and AFMU being weightless, ....

It really wouldn't of been an issue. A simple "In 4 weeks the Conda will have it's hull mass adjusted to fit in better with other ships" sent via in-game mail, the launcher and the forums would of given people plenty of time to get out of danger

Some might not consider it to have been an issue - Frontier seem to have though.

Have players complained about the Anaconda's "flaw" when it was new? Have they demanded it be changed right away? Honest question since I wasn't here. But if not, isn't it a bit hypocritical to come with this now. And has the 4x neutron boost not been another error, exacerbating it even more. You get people making it their favourite toy the moment such a thing comes out, and then you have a conflict. Clobber it back and the screaming would be much louder. If this happened again with any new feature, I don't think anything would change. If you give something to a kid, you don't take it back or all hell breaks loose. (And adult gamers are no different.)

I have been playing for ten years (on and off - I was also playing the original Elite game when it came out .. previous century that is :) ), and I think the Anaconda is fine. It has pros and cons, the longest range but not the best handling or views, the feel and luxury of a big ship. Conda has the best shields and it excels for trading, Corvette for fighting, Annie for exploring. If anything it took a hit in Odyssey with Exobiology and landing on planets.

An important thing when designing any new ship besides the obvious ones like innovation, improvement, finding a role in the game etc, is balance. I have all game ships fully engineered, and you can find a role for all of them. So Mandalay had to excel, but not so much as to leave all the other explorers in the dust.

Irrelevant, but I wish Frontier increased the 40 ships carrier limit, as they did with the optional internals after dss and super cruise assist modules were introduced.. I have two carriers, but i hate leaving half my fleet behind! :( C'mon Frontier, we'll soon have four new ships to accommodate!
