Shield Cells OP

So basically, you mean that any argument here is invalid, because only the sky-gods can foretell the future.

What I was basically saying was you have your point of view on the subject and I have mine, and we have both expressed them, so now it's up to FD(sky-gods :eek:) to decide. :D
 
I certainly hope Frontier does not give in and start letting the forums DICTATE to them what the game mechanics will be. I have seen the results of that over and over and over and over and over in 20 MMOs. Its always bad and the game you end up with barely resembles the game you bought. Once you start down the slippery slope of game balance dictated to you by a forum your game is OVER because you can NEVER balance a system that is inherently imbalanced. We are ALL OF US DIFFERENT in our skills, our personalities, our psychological make up, our physical abilities... and ALL OF THAT affects how we play the game. You CAN NOT balance this. EVER. This thread is a perfect example of why you keep your game mechanics changes INTERNAL to the development group. You will have people who hate your work and people who love it, you can't change that. But, AT LEAST your mechanics will stay consistent and not change on the winds of the MYSTICAL ALTER of BETTER GAME BALANCE. God, I hope this game doesn't fall down that slippery slope. My advice... Shield Cells are neither OP nor NOT OP. Shield Cells are what ever Frontier intended them to be and Frontier should never gauge the effectiveness of their mechanics by the forums. They should use mathematical data FROM THE GAME to determine what shield cells should be and how. PERIOD.

We need more hard proof,
other ships with cells taking on elite 'condas
would serve the argument more,
than people throwing rocks of opinions at each other.

All problems solved. Thanks almighty shield cell. Now i dont have to worry about my skills as a pilot, tactics or maneuverability.
Just press shield cell potion.

It is better tested on a ship, that is actually able to damage elite anaconda shields
and put up a fight like a lakon 6;)

I wonder how a turret Lakon 7 with a class 6 shield (if equippable)
will perform with shield cells.
 
Shield cell banks are fine. Its truth you dont wanna go back to stations becouse of every time some ships damages you at warzone. It just needs something that prevents spamming then like crazy which breaks PvE.
 
They are a bit much. They should reduce the amount of uses they have and limit the amount per ship to 1. Maybe only recharge a percentage of your shields too.

I'd like to see more videos too. I do think the eagle or the adder stand a pretty good chance of being able to do the same thing tho.

I see several problems in there. I see a problem with the AI, why did it just fly in a circle? Maybe your rallying cry should be AI BORKED! ?
I don't think there is enough information in one video to prove anything. And, on another note, I am not saying how the game should be. What I am saying is that NONE OF US should be able to say how the game should be because ALL OF US have different opinions. You know, you can please all of the people some of the time and, some of the people all of the time but, you can't please all of the people all of the time. So, use math. Keep your mechanics changes internal. Hope for the best.

The problem isn't the players with Shield cells its that the NPC's mainly don't have and/or use them, if they did then no anaconda could be taken so lightly ;)
 
Whatever the case. You can stand in front of all anacondas weapons, they wont penetrate you (only if youre unlucky one to be shot down by rail gun, i I fought like 10 anacondas already, never meet one with rail gun) thanks to shield cells.
Only one thing matters, how much shield cells left to use.

The ship configurations for NPCs are still broken, maybe they are supposed to use them.

A lot don't even have shield generators equipped. It seems they aren't very interested in fixing them because they have been like that for ages.
 
If shields get nerf'd then lasers will too, as they are closely related, which will likely mean a reduction in damage. I can see how Shield Cells might be overpowered when used with certain ships but if the module gets nerf'd without fixing the underlying problem then ships like the Eagle & Viper will not be viable (Shield tanked ships).

One way to fix the underlying problem is to adjust shield resistance values for ships that are considered armor tanked so that the Shield Cell doesn't have as much of an impact on damage mitigation. Another fix could be having bonuses for ships that have a shield tank role.

There is no such thing as a "shield tanking ship" and the Eagle certainly isn't supposed to be a ship that can soak lots of damage. It's only possible because shield cells are unbalanced, you can do this in ANY ship by using them. Even a hauler.

I've been using them on a cobra and it's basically invincible vs any of the AI targets. Plus is has a very strong hull under the shields and is fast so can easily escape when the shield cells run out. It's making the combat trivial.

Well... trying to play as dead-is-dead mode / ironman (I die, I clear my save) : Shield cells are the tiny little things that give me a lifespan lightly longer than mayfly's :D

I find them good as they are : they didn't prevent me from dying and starting back from scratch on a few occasions.
