I have had my ship blown up 2 times while I have been updating my controls. I come back to my ship to see the last of the explosion flames. The second time I made sure I was far away from planets and other ships. I don't even know why it blew up, by other attacking ships or did something go wrong. Any ideas about why it exploded or a way to leave the ship and play with controls without docking at station?

Ships blow up when they run out of fuel.
I was not out of fuel, but playing in solo is my solution. Thanks, feel like fool that I did not think of it. Do you think that other players could have attacked my ship? I doubt it, especially that fast, but what else could it have been?

If playing on PC check your journal file for that game session.

if it was you being destroyed by NPC or player you would have seen "you have been destroyed by...." (or words to that effect) before the rebuy screen.

The Session Log & Update both just said "ship destroyed," with no explanation. And there was nothing about how the ship was destroyed or the Commander who destroyed it, so I guess must be another reason why I blew my ship up two times. (I'm a recent convert from ED on xbox to pc. Should have done it long ago).

Is the "Journal Log" the same thing as the Session Log or Session Update? If not, where is the Journal Log found?
Check your bindings to see what is assigned to "silent running" - then either replace that with a combination of keys for example to prevent accidentally engaging that or remove it.
